I just changed from an iPhone 7+ to an iPhone X an hour or so back. I liked the smaller width of the iPhone for better holding. I even forgot about the notch until I remembered it. The face ID is super fast as is the phone and very smooth for moving from one page to another and one app to another. I can never go back to 7+.
I bought a leather case, that goes back. It is too slippery. I just ordered a Silicon one on the apple web site.

Coming from a 6+, I’m learning how to hold a phone again. I’ve been switching back and forth between the two and it’s a jarring change, but now the X feels so polished and well put together. Like the full screen though I’ve turned off True Tone for now. Word wrap on text isn’t that much different

FaceID is totally natural. Wireless charging is awesome. Having a 12.9 on ios11, the navigation seems similar but even better.

I’ve found the perfect case for me, has no lip and the buttons and bottom are cut out, keeps the symmetry while making it less slippery and still easy to edge swipe

Love YouTube with the larger screen. Friend got me onto watching The Piano Guys and their vids look wonderful, the notch after awhile becomes invisible.

It feels very, very small for me. I’m probably in the minority and have very large hands that made the Plus fit naturally in my grip. I feel like I’m back on a iPhone 4 right now. I’ll give it a few days and reevaluate.

Yeah, I returned mine today and grabbed an 8 Plus. I wish I was in the camp that didn’t care about the screen size difference but it bothered me too much.

Are you happy with going with the 8 plus? Regret it at all?

After using the X for several hours, barely noticed a difference. However, there is some minor adjustment period.

The keyboard feels more cramped due to less width. This should go away soon, especially if you’ve also used 6/7/8 keyboards.

I almost never use the 7+ in landscape, so didn’t miss those capabilities at all. I find the landscape mode, while useful in some instances, still did not provide a great/proper landscape feel that an iPad would.

If you mostly use your device in portrait orientation, you’ll feel right at home going from Plus to X

Leather case will get some grip to it once it has been used for a while.

I notice video apps are hit or miss on being optimized. Netflix and YouTube work with the new layout. HBO Now and Amazon Prime don't. Watching movies on those apps is pretty miserable.

I know it is painful. Luckily, I tend to watch youtube which works well enough.

Like the ole 5 and then 6/Plus, they need to optimize the apps. And also bring in the option of zooming full screen (which works well for many movies). Some devs don't get it... Vimeo updated their app for the X, but doesn't allow zooming full screen.

Well said. Landscape works good for videos even zoomed in. I use my iPad for any real watching or book reading. Surprisingly, the portrait mode on the X can display as much text as a Plus, so it IS good for reading.

The size is certainly something that has me questioning the change. I miss the screen real estate in landscape already. And replying to a message in landscape is impossible in the quick reply screen, the keyboard smushes into the part that shows the text and all you see is keyboard.

I am ok with the notch, but dislike that I lost information like alarm and the portrait lock icons are no longer displayed.
Also, the app switcher in landscape will let you switch to a portrait only app like settings is on X and you will be forced to change orientation.
Just some things I’ve noticed throughout the day with my Plus to X switch.

I transitioned to the X from the Plus. I’ve owned all of them. I love the screen size and could use the phone single handed easily. That said, I always found the Plus just a smidge too wide to be totally comfortable.

The screen on the X is not as wide and that makes everything smaller. It’s bigger than the 6/7/8 but it’s no Plus. I think it’s about halfway between the two. Because it is more narrow, it is more comfortable to hold, I like the form factor a lot. It is light and easy to carry.

The screen on the X is a better quality but not night and day. That said “optimized” apps look great.

Keyboard is bigger than the regular phone but not Plus size. I have big hands and typing is easier one handed and more accurate due to the same. If the keyboard wasn’t good. It would be a deal breaker for me. I’m pleased that it is a good keyboard.

Overall, I like the X better than the Plus but I can see all the benefits of the Plus and the X is not a substitute for a Plus. It’s for people looking for something different. I think there is an argument that it is not a substitute for an 8 either for the same reasons.

Top x. Bottom 7+.

I️ kinda like the bigger screen of the + rather than the tall narrow x screen with rounded edges or notches. I️ wish the X screen was a little bigger.

No regrets here. I came from the 7 Plus so I knew it wouldn’t be a huge upgrade but I do enjoy the True Tone displaly and I’ll enjoy the other aspects along the way. Honestly, given the more narrow display wasn’t acceptable for me I have no issues giving up the X. I wouldn’t have been satisfied day to day.

I played the same video on my X and 6S+ in landscape and honestly don't see what all of the fuss is about. The difference in is quite small that you really need to have them side-by-side to even notice it. I don't zoom my videos though because I don't like how it cuts off the top/bottom. And it's not like you watch video on a smartphone in the first place if you're looking for an immersive experience.

Still adjusting
Find it a little too narrow
Might just stick with 7 Plus or upgrade to 8 Plus for the camera

Is picture quality the same between 8 plus and X?

After a day or so of using the X I just don't know... I had a 6S Plus and I feel like you get more screen and the battery just never dies. For me I'm on 18% with only 7 hours of use. On my 2 year old Plus I'd hit 10-12 hours of heavy use no problem.

Most think the taller display compensates for it being narrower but the home bar area remains un-utilised and hence the display definitely feels smaller.

Suppose that’s down to the app developers and even Apple utilising it fully. I’m browsing the forums just now and the screen is used right to the bottom.
Sure the bar gets in the way a bit, I’ll be glad when Apple let us turn that off.

It IS smaller... Why do people state the obvious that it feels or seems smaller in the hand?! It's slightly thicker too, and on the one I just held today, makes it feel far more comfortable to hold even without a case.
Because people wanting an upgrade / new design after 4 years from their plus sized phones shouldn’t have to compromise on the screen size.

The keyboard difference was one of my worries but I feel like I didn’t lose much space so I really like this form factor. I don’t miss the largeness of the Plus; however if a Plus model of this form factor came I would definitely be invested (especially if Apple Pencil comes too with ProMotion)

Yeah I’d definitely consider a X Plus. I’m not missing the extra space of the Plus for the vast majority of the time but I still think it’s odd Apple didn’t go for the extra 1/4 inch in the first place. It wouldn’t make the device hugely wider.

Maybe next year they’ll completely eliminate the side bezels and add the extra space, that would at least please the Plus users not willing to compromise on the missing quarter of an inch.

It feels like an iPhone 5. Don't give me measurements. I know. I am just saying, that was my first impression. I feel like I am using my old iPhone 5 size-wise.

It's narrow, and tall. The height does not help make it feel bigger. It feels much smaller despite the dimensions.

Be prepared if you love the size of the Plus. Coming from a 6/7/8, it should be a treat.

The size is something that will definitely be user specific, although it seems most people are okay with it being slightly narrower than the Plus. I was a 6 plus owner, then a 6s owner because I couldn’t deal with the pocket real estate required for the plus, but then went back to 7 plus for the screen. The X is a perfect compromise for me and I love it. I don’t watch movies or TV shows on the phone (have an iPad Pro for on the go), and youtube/web videos don’t need the wider screen, so the narrower size doesn’t bother me at all. Never use landscape mode otherwise. Not sure an iPhone X plus would make much sense for me next year, but we shall see. If they just made the current X wider to match the plus aspect ratio, maybe I would consider. But I doubt the larger class would be the same height, .25 inches wider...I’m guessing the plus will be a beast, and more than necessary for me. Again, with an iPad for movies on the go, totally unnecessary.
