Do people generally watch Netflix on their phone? I have never actually watched Netflix on my phone so it's definitely not a deal breaker for me, and the plastic back is weirdly a nice change from all the shiny metal and glass backs. They had to cut corners somewhere.

Few people do. That’s why Netflix is the 15th most downloaded free app on iOS....

Like all androids, why the notch if there’s a bezel on the bottom?

People don’t give Apple enough credit for their current screen design. No one else has been able to replicate it.

It's not exactly cheap to get OLED that folds to hide the ribbon cable.

This. Many many phones don't have that certification, even previous Xiaomi phones, and nobody cared. Yet now it is being brought up against the Poco F1 specifically, and everybody suddenly pretended that they require HD netflix on their phones. Somebody at BBK must not be too happy that their OnePlus is no longer cool.

At the price point it's not necessarily a deal-breaker, but that's a pretty significant corner to cut imo. A lot of folks wouldn't be happy to know they can't do HD Netflix, Hulu, etc.

Not knocking the phone though, still a great price for what you get.
I would be bothered but then I wouldn’t spend £300 on a phone because I’d be unhappy with all the compromises. However if you’re only spending £300 on a phone then you probably can put up with a few shortcomings and might not even care about something like that.

I always find these flagship killers a bit of a waste of time. If you buy a flagship phone it’s usually because you want the best of the best. If you aren’t bothered about having the top end features then you would just buy a midrange phone. These flagship killers always have quite a few compromises so in the end they can’t match a flagship phone.

Maybe not, but with this thing supposedly being a flagship killer the people in this thread will be ... less than kind to it.

It’s a smart move not to launch this in North America because it would be a massive flop.

By car mode, do you mean Android Auto?

No, I mean my personal car mode. That is BT ON, start TuneIn Radio.

With NFC and a tag you can set your phone to all sort of personalized environments.

The Poco would be still a good 2nd phone for me, but I would not consider it as main phone. (I have already a 2nd phone though with similar functions to the Poco)

Sure, because NA is not even a growth market.
Not sure what “not a growth market” means?

As for the poco, it seems like you get a lot of bang for your buck. The problem is, it’s a jack of all trades and a master of nothing. The cheap price is the #1 draw. I would be willing to bet if a oneplus 6 and a poco phone were the same price (or very close) that the poco would lose most of its appeal. It’s nice that the poco offers a lot of top tier specs for a cheap price, but let’s call a spade a spade. The phone cuts a lot of corners. The people buying it aren’t doing it because it’s BETTER than oneplus or any other high end phone. People want this phone because it’s very affordable. No shame in that, but this thing is no flagship killer and never will be. The price point it’s in is too competitive, and it lacks too many things. It’s good that it exists, but let’s not pretend the people buying it are getting anywhere close to a flagship experience for 1/3 the price.

You would be saying the same thing against the OnePlus One back in 2014, where it offered SD801 for $250. But look at you now defending OnePlus. :D

The Poco F1 can be cheap with the same reason why any Xiaomi phones are generally cheaper than the similarly specced competitor. Xiaomi has stated that they have 5% margin in their hardware. There’s no secret or anything.

You nailed it, Xiaomi has India's number 1 sales volume, as the world know the country has 60% illiterate and poverty (average annual salary is roughly $ 2000 or so) of the world, majority of the population is using phones to call their love ones in the country side, the voice data is the sole use of the population, Xiaomi smart to know that they have 6 assembling plants manufacturing literally 2 phones per second. Why do they need NA market ? where its phone business are controlled by carriers. In India, pay as you go that is all to it.

It’s not as good as an android flagship phone. It’s as simple as that. Yes it offers you good bang for your buck but it’s nowhere as good as a flagship android phone.

Oneplus is different. They keep improving and adding features. The poco phone is marketed to people who can’t afford it if they improve it too much, cause the price will be too high.

Correction: OnePlus WAS different.
Look at the OnePlus One. It’s exceptional and amazingly built for the price. OnePlus also tried a unique approach with the OnePlus X, and started the ringer slider. But after that, it’s just a follower now. Heck, I see more improvements from their sister companies, Oppo and Vivo. The only thing OnePlus is increasing is just their prices. There’s a reason that even BBK is starting up another new brand, Realme. OnePlus is no longer the flagship killer.

Poco F1 in a sense is the spiritual successor of the old OnePlus. Going back to basics to what matters in a phone for enthusiasts, and deliver the best flagship spec at reasonable price. The Poco F1 is actually targeted straight against the OnePlus for leaving the price gap. It should be obvious from their keynote.

Yep, they do. I usually download shows the day before I take a flight, so that I can watch exactly what I want in-flight.

Credit for having something protruding into the display? Nobody deserves any sort of credit for the crappy notch phase some of these phone makers are going through.

With market saturated, phone makers are making their devices better and cheaper(except those flagship), good news for consumers.

It does not stream in HD. I'm sure it can play HD content that you load on to the device. I also doubt it does not have the ability to stream in HD but is restricted due to whatever agreements are necessary from the streaming service. Important difference

I personally don't think it is a flagship killer as well but the price point is rather amazing. You can buy most these phones and ship to the US via Amazon by the way. The Blu Vivo XI+ looks like another nice device for only $329. I would choose this device or the Blu if I was on this type of budget easily over what $350 buys you locally.

Not the true flagship killer when it can't even play HD or HDR videos.
Do you even watch that video? I’m not a fan of unbox therapy, but he has a good point. First, even the OnePlus 5 and 5T didn’t have that feature, yet nobody complained. And from the video, he said even 540p on a smartphone screen is good enough, and most won’t really fully appreciate FullHD on a screen that small.

And we’re only taking about HD on streaming services like Netflix. YouTube and local videos are not affected.

Good enough does not a Flagship Killer make.
