And I wanted to use the MacGyver theme song as a ringtone....

Ah well! I probably wouldn't ever buy one. Firstly because it's not set for a Canada release yet...

But for now.... I have all the great TV show theme songs on my good ol Samsung C417. And it's all thanks to eBay and BootCamp. ... and YouTube.

Enough of these critic reviews. They are all envious because they know that the iPhone is truly a revolutionary phone and they just try to make it look bad. They want one but can't get one.

The iPhone is going to be greater than the iPod in popularity, I am predicting.

Critic review? So now, only reviews saying "OMG TEH IPHONE IS THE BESTEST!!!" are allowed? The guy's being honest and pointing out that your holy iPhone is not perfect.

And I highly doubt your prediction, as long as it requires a 2 year contract and isn't available outside this country.

i dont get why apple doesn't put some of these features in.

they easily can make some of these features happen so why do they not put them in now and wait for software updates.

The fact that there will be software updates is great news. I wish they would update the OS in the ipods.

People who act like the missing 3G is a big deal obviously don't use 3G on daily.

My job is testing networks like this. 3G networks are just as slow as EDGE for loading pages. All 3G networks have huge latency, around 800ms. Even with Verizon EV-DO expresscard which I use it's still slow even though it's considered broadband.

Sure once a download starts it gets up to 50-300k/sec but then when are you going to be downloading large 500MB files on your iPhone? It's not like you can move them to your computer.

It's the latency. If the phone did have 3G you would see it taking just as long to load the damn page. because each request to the webserver is another route that has 800ms ping times

Trust me even the fastest "3G" networks make browsing web pages annoying as hell.

It's really a mute point. So people stop, because 2G, 3G, EV-DO your page would still load slow.

Anyone who actually has EV-DO "broadband" knows what I'm talking about.

Seriously for email and pulling up pages it will be fine.

Deal Breaker

Yeah, that really kills the desire for an iPhone inside of me. Not being able to use the iPhone as a wireless modem is kind of a big deal, and a few other issues brought up are disappointing.

That is the final deal breaker for me... I was really disappointed it doesn't include GPS, but was convinced I could live without that because Google Maps is so good.

Thanks for the update! I was secretly worried since I was told about that. Now I can go back telling the person who told me about it that it's no longer true.

Buzzkill.

Why not enable the wireless modem feature? Ohyeah it's on Edge right, now I remember. I had a dream this thing couldn't be used as a wireless modem and my dreams have come true. At least I didn't drop my other carrier yet I supposed I can keep that line as my wireless modem line but I'm gonna feel real dumb walking around with 2 phones. Bravo cingular err AT&T! But seriously this thing is shaping up to be a grown up version of a sidekick. Isn't it?

well .. does anyone know if i can switch back and forth between my razr v3xx and iphone? i sometimes use it as a modem when i am out at the beach house, and i dont want to lose that. i do hope i will be able to switch out sim cards if need be.

Do they answer the question of if the internet can get back to normal once the iPhone is released. the internet, news papers, TV news, magazines, and pretty much every tech site in every language in the world? Can we all get back to a time when there was just a rumor and a mild buzz.
Frankly I'm wondering what is going to happen when I see my first iPhone:

A. I will shrug and move one.
B. I will point a finger and say ARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!
C. I will ignore it.
D. I will take the phone away from the person and destroy it.
E. Realize that the iPhone has driven me over the edge and I need a therapist.

I'm guessing a combo of A, B, and C.

no disk mode in the beginning probably keeps people from screwing up the phone, this will change over time, and iTunes will provide a way to sync files, but the iPhone really has no file browser so where would you find the PDF file you sent the phone anyway?

Give it a week and people will have hacked the hell out of this thing. It will end up being formatted into two partitions by many people, and people will do all sorts of fun things. A phone like this is great it's all about the hacking.

- No other company’s SIM card works in the iPhone.

I was planing on coming to states to purchase this phone. But i can't even do that now because i can't use it unlocked with my carrier here with my SIM card. So this phone is locked to AT&T only even if you purchase online?

That's generally the idea behind an exclusive contract... That so many people are shocked by this is just amazing.

As for ringtones, remember all those iTunes screenshots that have the Ringtones tab? Okay. Now calm down, people. Breathe into a paper bag. The world isn't about to end.

Apple made the UI so good, but dropped the ball on the functionality, some of what are quite poor decisions. Apple had better raise their game in European and Asian markets, otherwise the iPhone will sink like a lead balloon

Really??? Can only use the 25 preset ringtones??? It can't do what a 40$ phone can do??? Seriously?? I'm still gonna get one though :(

I have a feeling the PIM capabilities will be sorely lacking compared to WM (third-party PI or Agenda Fusion) or Palm.

Not too big a deal. Utility past basic PIM functionality starts to dimish fairly quickly.

On the phone itself I agree to a point; it is slow but then try loading a page in EVDO versus a 1X and tell me if you don't long for EVDO!!
Really I miss the 3G for the DUN...where browsing is almost normal.

iPhone can't be used as a wireless modem for your laptop? omg honey, 1998 is that way *points*... if someone needs a wifi phone for their laptop, they should really consider buying a new laptop instead of the iPhone...

You apparentely don't know how handy it is, when in an area without WiFi, to be able to tether your phone to your laptop and access the internet. Another thing apple dropped the ball on

yeah, Im tired of ppl treating this thing as a full featured computer, give me a break, with that screen, its unrealistic to use it for all your activity online. whats the point. Its a PHONE.

Ummm, no. I highly disagree. Yes, EVDO has latency issues, but the overall gain in speed still gives a *significant* speed performance boost. You are definitely fooling yourself in your "tests." Web pages at the end, even WITH the latency, loads SIGNIFICANTLY faster than EDGE can ever do. All of our work laptops are equipped with VZW's EVDO cards, and I'd challenge anyone to claim EVDO isn't that different.

That being said, AT&T's future 3G (some call it 3.5G) service is called HSDPA. The latency issues on these are FAR improved. So I cannot wait until the iPhone moves over to HSDPA which it eventually will.

So, you can have EDGE. I'll keep EVDO.
