I guess you could use it for writing, but they'd have to bring back some of the Newton - handwriting to text features. The real benefit of a tablet would be for apps like Photoshop and Painter. Holy crap, I don't know if I'd ever pick up a sketchbook again!

I would be interested in a mac tablet, but I would not have very much use for one. If I was more into graphic design, I would definitely buy one to be able to get rid of a drawing tablet.

I wouldn't really be interested in a tablet PC. I find them terribly akward to use. I would however really like to see a sub-notebook similar to an eeePC. It would be perfect for travel.

I could be interested in a tablet, since I'm in love with Illustrator and vector art...but I haven't dabbled in it much yet.

i like the ipod touch so much its not even funny anymore :p
but having a itablet in the game and i'll be screaming apple from every roof top :D

-10inch screen (not smaller because 10 inch isn't that big)
-1 firewire 400/800 port (for my apogee duet)
-2 usb ports (always handy)
-80gb (bigger ones in the future)
-good video card with tv out (why not)
-wifi and blue tooth (because we wanna connect)

no keyboard/ no camera/ no dvd or blu ray/ no buttons just one on the front and a big apple logo on the back

what's left..... off course amazing apps like logic studio touch  the ultimate tool in the studio and on stage

apple please make my wet dreams come true :)

This could only be complete with an accelerometer...to be able to hold it in the crook of your arm like a notebook and still be hard at work. :D

I'm interested. I hope they make one, and I hope people buy them so I can hear about it. How cool would that be?

But I wouldn't want to own and use one myself  On the go, my iPhone is all the Mac tablet I need (and it runs Photoshop--slowly--in emergencies thanks to Jaadu). Bigger would not be good. While at home, mouse, keyboard and Wacom tablet are already the most ergonomic for the things I do most often.

I do think the things we do will evolve (the iPhone is the start) and so tablets may well grow to have more of a place in our lives eventually.

Apple knows very well. They sell sex. That's why they rock. I sign up for one.

You just said it my friend. You've seen PC Tables but you've not seen Mac Tablets. It even sounds better.

i don't think that apple is focusing on games accept a bit on devices like the ipods and iphones

pc gaming isn't that big anymore its all console gaming now

but than again the 'Lets Rock' event could also be the presentation for rock band the apple edition with apple designed instruments :D

What we need is something as small as possible (5 to 7 inch screen or so) and as light as possible (400 g or so) but with a full Mac OS X inside, so that full NATIVE Keynote and PowerPoint files can be open for full blown presentations with transitions, animations and video, as done now with laptops. Both wired and wireless. Because even the MacBook Air is too large and heavy for us. With true Ethernet port. With true Firewire ports (Target Disk Mode for repairs, camcorder video in, etc). Something like this, but with Mac OS X inside:

OQO model e2

i cant even fathom a tablet replacing the MBP... it would be the stupidest thing to do IMO... running programmes like final cut would be hell... IF it is possible to even run them in the first place. sometimes you NEED a big screen which isnt your desktop to work with. wouldnt be bad for an internet tablet , but in ADDITION to the MBP not instead...

In my opinion, if Apple were to make a tablet, then it would have a UI almost the same to the iPhone. By this, I can see text input in the form of multitouch, not handwriting recognition. I can see applications for a stylus, in terms of drawing, but I love touch typing on my iPhone. There's not feel and my hands just glide. It would be so nice to just tap on glass. :)

I am SO interested in a mac tablet!!! It should be like the macbook pro, able to do EVERYTHING you want, but has a large 17" swivel screen that can convert to a tablet for writing, editing, drawing, etc. I will wait in line as soon as word comes out of its release date!:D

Not interested, a mac tablet is a toy, nothing more, apart from maybe hospital use, it serves no real general home use function, I would be really hard pressed to get a mac tablet.

I use my macs to actually get work done, not as silly toys

Not sure. I'd definitely be interested in something smaller than my Powerbook, but I don't know if I'd like to completely replace it with something else.

Here's my take on it, if/when Apple makes a tablet it won't be a replacement for a MBP, and it won't be intended to function as a workstation, more of a lightweight internet/email/media device like the iPhone but with a larger screen and a little more muscle.

They have a slimmed down touch OS already and a community of developers producing touch apps. They can trim down/specialize apps like iPhoto and Pages to run on a less powerful machine like this. I would expect to able to create and organize documents and do light work on photos, not edit HD video or write a novel. Remember, they still want people to buy Macbooks too, this wouldn't directly replace anything in my opinion.

Keeping the specs down would also help to keep the cost down and really get lots of people using and developing for their touch OS making it more of a platform than just one device. I would buy one if the price was within reason, and I bet the slim Apple sexiness alone would move a lot of stock. Could this be the transitional product cutting into profits Steve mentioned?
