My mac pro at work is for scientific computing, paper writing, programming.

My mac pro at home will be a home work machine but will also be a backup drive, and entertainment storage. This was a machine rescued from a scrap pile, given a new logic board. I'll downgrade the CPU to a slower 2.2V 4-core to bring the power consumption down to 40 watts, I hope.

But mostly to pick up chicks.

I have a busy job, and work a lot. My maxed out cMP makes sure that I don't have to wait on my computer while hobbying with FCPX and Civ6. Lately, though, my 12 yo daughter is running it harder than I ever have with FCPX, Motion, and Compressor.

Can't wait for the mMP. I sympathize with the pros, who need very specific things. For me, a modern, upgradeable OSX machine would be great.

I use my 4,1 for photography - using Capture One Pro 10.1. The newer camera sensors are a brutal on storage space for wedding and portrait photographers. The Nikon D750 files are easier to push than Fuji X-T2 files, and my primary camera is now the X-T2. Takes a good bit of time to export 600-700 files from RAW to JPEG. The Sony a7rII files are just nuts.

I'm hoping the new mMP offers at least two internal and upgradeable flash storage options - three would be ideal. A standard PCIe video card would also be a boon. I'm really not liking what I'm hearing about the nMP's dual GPU bugs. If Apple drops the ball on this one, I'm probably vacating Apple as workstation.
