I'd echo that. Darin was friendly, patient and responsive when I fired him multiple queries before ordering my Portenzo. Just an excellent buying experience from start to finish. And the quality of the product speaks for itself.

Agreed. Great product first, great customer service second, great website third. Portenzo cares about the people who use their products and they have sold quite a few cases through word of mouth, here, on facebook, and elsewhere. Word of mouth is the most convincing and genuine marketing available - and it takes guts to rely on your customers' words to sell your products. You have to get the product right, and Darin seems to be relentlessly focused on the product.

It'll be great when everything is up on the web site - but of course, then there will be even newer variations.

Would someone who had purchased from Portenzo before tell me how long it took for your case to be shipped after placing your order? I rknow on the website it says 3-5 business days for the case I ordered, and on this coming Monday it will be the 5th day.......I am so looking forward to seeing the status to change to "Shipped" from "Processing".

After quietly reading comments and reviews on different forums, I finally decided to give it a shot to Portenzo and ordered the case on the 16th. Before I had my eye on the Dxdx case but after knowing the corner issues and few other things from previous Dxdx users who shared their experiences between Dxdx and Portenzo, I chose the later one. Hope it's really worth it :). I also had my eye on the Vaja before, although the design and leather are just great, it's a bit pricy to me.

I would like to know how soon it ships, too. My Black Alano was just ordered this week with production time of 7 - 10 days but, can anyone with an experience give me any idea how soon it ships? Is it in 7 - 10 business days or normal days? There is a Thanksgiving break next week...

My black Alano shipped in eight days. It was worth the wait though.

My Wingtip shipped in 4 business days and my Alanos shipped in 6 business days.

I ordered a Stingray last night - can't wait to see that!

My Moleskin-style case shipped within a day or two, but I ordered before interest in Portenzo's line went boom.

Thanks for being helpful. It's my first Portenzo so you know how exciting I am waiting for it! It could have been nicer if I ordered it earlier just in time for Thanksgiving.

Wow you obviously got a voracious appetite for Portenzo! Keep us posted on Stingray as I've never seen the actual leather. It's what, a couple of hundred dollars to burn!? You are the man. Alano wasn't enough for you. :D

Hi all, thanks for your discussion!

We are extremely grateful for your interest and humbled by the outstanding reviews of our Alano. We take extreme pride and joy in our work, and focus every day on making outstanding products.

I'll try to answer a few questions that seem to pop up:

The regular cases:
Yes, they fold flat with the excess being able to show on either the spine side or the open side.

This does NOT apply to the Wingtip, nor the exotics. They do not fold flat because of the properties of the material used. They're spines do not fold more than a 90 degree angle back on itself (typing mode).

The Portenzo Alano:
They are absolutely exquisite, I know, I 'm biased, but it's true. I go back and forth between my Midnight Alano (for dress) and my Composition (for casual), even though I can make any case I want.
The Alano will not fold flat. Personally, I have never found that to be an issue. They fold semi-flat, and because of the way they are made, provide an excellent 'grip' for one-handed use.

They are private order right now because we simply could not keep up with more demand. All of our cases are made by hand, in-house, we don't farm them out.

Midnight and Buck Naked are a bit thicker than the Dark Chocolate. That is just the way we received our order of this leather. Our tannery produces excellent leathers, but they are a bit of a mystery to deal with sometimes.

The Midnight and Chocolate are extremely durable and wipe clean with a damp cloth. I beat the hell out of mine (Midnight Black) and it stays clean as a whistle.

The Buck Naked, on the other hand, is really 'buck naked'! it is a vegetable tanned leather with no dies or topcoats. It will acquire the patina of use with age. You can certainly oil/polish it and slow that process down quite a bit. I recommend leaving it naked until it gets a little 'uniqueness' to it, then use your oil/polish of choice to kind of slow the process.

The corner system:
They will never come loose, they will never wear out.
After a few hours of use, they compress slightly to mold to the shape of the iPad. You can take your iPad in and out as many times as you like.
Our corners are truly a non issue. They only get talked about because other manufacturers cases fail on this point.

Horizontal position?
Yes, you can put any of our cases in a horizontal position. If the surface is too slick for any reason, just use the elastic as a 'catch', as in this photo.

I hope that helps, and thanks again for your input and reviews,

Darin and Team Portenzo!

Just a thought . . . I have always thought that just some button or catch on the moleskine style case to hold case in this position would be a nice and not too difficult addition.

LOL! Which one?

And Darin, choices are good! Love your dedication and it looks like it is definitely paying off!!!! :D

Black Alano . . . And I am not kidding--I really hope the next ipad is the same shape factor. Have almost as much in cases as the iPad cost itself . . .;)

No kidding-this is one of the cases I am strongly considering-looks like i'm going to wind up with quite a few at this rate!

I apologize in advance if I missed it, but does anyone have a link or a photo of a Portenzo case with the stylus option?

Thanks,
Bill

We actually make these (for a large insurance company) with a metal tab that hooks the elastic to make it easy to set up (on any surface) for presentations. Personally, I just don't like the looks of anything on the cover. It is pretty minimalistic, but I'm just not a fan of it.

I've set the Portenzo on several different surfaces and have not needed to use the elastic for it to hold the movie-mode position. So I would not buy that option if it were offered - but maybe some folks would.

I feel like the current design of the Portenzo case is perfect. However, I have no doubt Darin and the Portenzo Team are still looking for ways to improve the design.

I was also concerned with the possible revision but I took the plunge, regardless. I highly doubt that screen size will change so, even if it gets thinner, as some rumors state, the iPad can still be held by the corner padding system in the case, I hope.
