I had the same thing last night. I was bereft. And then it showed up. It must have been after 7. I will keep my fingers crossed for you. :D

Anyone care to comment on the weight of these cases compared to some of the more typical folios? I just picked up the Jack Spade Folio from the Apple store for $69 and while I like it, these ones look absolutely stunning and so clean. I'm looking to simply purchase the Notebook Style case.

And how easy are they to remove from the case? I watched the shake test video on the site and that's great and all... but do they come out easy for when you want to use the iPad naked?

I saw video review somewhere else online, and it seemed pretty easy to get out. The reviewer simply followed the included instructions, grasping the edge of the iPad and pressing his thumb firmly against the bamboo frame. He also did a successful shake test, so his case was a standard, quality Portenzo.

Removal of iPad from Portenzo case

Hi all! I just got a change to catch up on the discussion.

The Alano is made from a single piece of very thick leather, the Teju is made just as a traditional book, with thinner pieces of leather as its cover material, and an Italian book cloth as its interior.

LanikaiGirl, great photos! Love the one on the pine boards.

As for removal of the iPad, here is part of the note that now comes inside each Alano:
--------------------------------------------
Your Portenzo™ case has a very exact fit for the iPad. For the easiest way to remove the iPad, please follow these instructions. This makes it ridiculously easy to remove the iPad. There is no need to take the iPad out from the front of the case.

1 - Put the case face down on a table in front of you with the elastic strap loose on top (NOT wrapped around the cover) and the spine facing you. (basically upside-down and backwards)
2 - Grip the case on each outside corner of the back cover and frame with your fingers, and put your thumbs twards the center of the backside of the case.
3. Open the case (it will be facing away from you) by lifting it open about an inch (while the cover stays flat on the table) and gently push down FIRST WITH ONE THUMB, THEN WITH THE OTHER.

The ipad will simply drop out of the case (gently landing on the cover, remember your only open by an inch or so) as if you were getting ice out of a tray.

--------------------------------------------

Once you try it, it becomes obvious.

Also,
1- your order will stay in 'Processing' status until it actually ships.

And for non-USA orders:
2- If your shipping outside the US, the USPS does not track packages once they leave the USA. Your tracking will show IN TRANSIT up until it arrives at your door. The last destination will show HAZELWOOD, or CHICAGO, for the entire duration of its trip, and will stay that way until it arrives at your door.
We have no control over this, this is the way the USPS works.

I hope that helps,
and thanks again from the entire team!

^ Thanks! I'll probably be ordering a Notebook style case very soon. Just have to return this Jack Spade first... ;)

I received my Portenzo Alano in midnight black leather today and I am VERY happy with it. I'll try to post some pictures and a full review here over the weekend. As others here have said the fit & finish is great, shipping time was fast and the customer service was superb. I highly recommend the Alano. Makes me wish I had the extra $$ to pony up for a Stingray case, alas, maybe iPad 2.

Where are the sting ray pics??!! PLEASE!!

Well, I wish I had the Stingray so I could take pics - from the tracking info on the Portenzo page, I thought both cases I ordered had shipped, but only the standard notebook case had. Still waiting for the Stingray - Darin expected it to ship yesterday; I hope it did.

I promise to take pics as soon as I can once the case is in hand!

I have had my iPad for only a couple of days and have been looking for a decent case for it. A member over at Bit-Tech.net pointed me towards the Portenzo and after researching it I have to say I have no doubts about ordering one. I just wish Portenzo offered a pink lining.

Ordered mine on 11/30/2010 and still waiting/processing. As long as it comes before Xmas day I'll be happy.

I just received my new Portenzo. Ya'll I am pretty sure I have the best one to date. It is brown Teju skin. It is so gorgeous my family and I gasped in unison when I opened it. Seriously. It is not a cover, it is a work of art. I would change nothing. I am waiting until tomorrow to take pictures and post them. It is dark here and I want to get the best light to show off the warmth of it.
Darin, I am truly sorry. After tomorrow, I fear you will be inundated with orders for the Teju. I am going on a cruise ship next week and I am afraid of how many people will learn about Portenzo from me after they see it. People, I would get in your orders NOW. :D :D

can you be specific as to which case this is? the regular case with special cover or special case?

I received my Portenzo case today!

One word : Beautiful!

I added a few quick pics with my iPhone.

Stunning! I got an email from Darin today saying that my Portenzo Alano in black was shipped today, I can't wait to get it. Sterne, please post pics of your Stingray case, I may just have ot order one for the next gen iPad in 2011.

When did you order? I ordered a midnight black alano on the 21st of Nov and haven't heard anything (other than the decrease in bank account) from them...

Send Darin an email. He's good about getting back to you to resolve the issue.

FYI, I ordered the same on Nov 20--no word either. . .

I ordered mine over a week ago, partly because of the assurance on the Portenzo website that says: "We will ship your order shortly after we receive payment".

Well, they have had my money for a week now but the order status continues to show "processing". I keep thinking that it could be wrong, and that perhaps it has indeed already shipped, because no serious business could run on the basis that over a week is "shortly" when we are talking about putting a product in a box and sending it out. My email to Darin on the issue has gone unanswered.

Was looking forward to this but it seems that they can't deliver on their promises and the customer service level appears below par. I hope I'm wrong and it shows up soon...

Ever order from Vaja??

Compared to the wait and lack of contact from Vaja, Portenzo has been just great. They have replied to all of my emails almost instantly. I have not contacted them yet regarding the order because it almost always seems my order ships on the day I contact someone . . . But I might check-in with them in a day or two.

oops. Just got the shipment order about 10 minutes ago!!!

PS: Just to be fair, my order was Nov 20, but it was a Friday night, and the following week was the week of Thanksgiving . . .

oops, sorry. I think that because of all the good press they might be a little behind on their orders. Just waiting for my shipment notice. . .

Oh ok thanx! I though by swamped u mean their product wasn't as good but now that I've reread it makes more sense.

Funny, i sent darin an email and like, 20 seconds later, i get a ship notice. I'm sure our emails passed on the interwebs, but he was even cool enough to respond to my email saying I would get it by Christmas (which is why i ordered it).

So, all told, the black alano case i ordered on the 21st will be here on the 10th. Not bad...

I ordered the Dark Chocolate Alano on the 11/17; got an email for Darin saying the next batch was shipping this Monday.
