they both look great. I like the light one best.

i only use safari and chrome when sites not working correctly in safari.

I don't have that many apps installed from app store. mainly iwork apps.
 
Here are the backgrounds that I have in my wallpaper rotation (changes ever 30 minutes). I am currently using the dark menus and dock option.

I'd say it is just a photo. It was taken in Italy (from the flag in the picture) but I'd say if it was their house/them who taken it for a wallpaper, they you have waited to get the grass cutter out of the picture.

It has been photo edited though, very clear from the edges of the building that the sky is fake.
