Hopefully someone will find my two cents useful!

As I was halfway typing this long review of my installed apps my iphone crashed on me and I am now having to restore it as we speak...

Aqua Forest:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxpGdRH7J5I
Amazing showcase of accelerometer, awesome sandbox gameplay, great way to waste some time. Def not everybodys cup of tea, if youre interested, tastes like "hell of a sand falling flash game" that can be found and played online.

Aurora Feint:
http://aurorafeint.com/
Hands down the best free game on the appstore right now. Superb graphics, great presentation, addicting puzzle gameplay and its the only game with RPG elements available at the moment, you have nothing to lose at the cost of free!

Brain Challenge:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNS42Rzcjmc
Feels like a bit washed down version of brain age for ds, very similar to xbox live version. Perfectly priced for the amount of content it offers, I am especially enjoying the daily brain trainer that will keep track of your usage stats, similar to wii training for wii sports. Crisp user interface and great graphics. For anyone who likes brain teasers or math questions, etc.

Enigmo:
http://www.pangeasoft.net/iphone/enigmo/index.html
Nothing to say but what an exquisite translation of the existing mac version currently available. Rocksteady frame rate, great controls, overall great purchase. Tastes like the incredible machine or armadillo run.

iPint:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLp0s88pH3I
Fun at first but gets boring very fast, will probably delete in a while if not for the novelty of showing off, its free!

iXpenseIt:
http://www.ixpenseit.com/
Does everything it says, great finance tool, well integrated and feels solid however lacking a few obvious functions. Setting budget categories and then the transactions adhering to a specific set budget by week or per month then displaying how much money you have left in each budget, would also be nice to see vendors in the transaction list instead of the categories. Really hope for an update because it is a great app.

Light:
The free one, yep its a white screen, it is a bit whiter than using a safari screen or mail screen for the same purpose just for the fact of using those extra 30-40 pixels of white area.

Mix Meister Scratch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ihU-ZD80pA
Another novelty application that is fun for 10 mins, turns screen into vinyl record that allows you to scratch on top of existing ipod music, comes with 10-15 available scratching noises, able to adjust volume.

NearPics:
Handy dandy little application that gps's your location and displays pictures other people have taken near your area, you can also click on the map icon to locate exactly where that picture was taken via geotagging. Fun to see other pictures of your area, could be especially useful on vacation. Takes a second or two to start up but solid thereafter.

OneTap:
In my opinion the best movie app out there right now, except for that wierd map flash at the beginning of every start up. GPS's your location and displays theaters, showtimes, popular movies at the box office and where theyre showing, ratings and descriptions via imdb, streaming trailers and directions to the theater. I chose this over the others because the other two, boxoffice and movies.app simply didnt find all of the theaters I use!

PhoneSaber:
Yup, turns your phone into a light saber, pretty accurate sounds for the motions, allows you to change colors, fun with your freinds, novelty at best, its free!

Quordy:
http://quordy.com/
Awesome little word finding game that utilizes shaking the phone to jumble the words up and adds sliding your finger in multiple directions to find different words, compare yourself to other players times and challenge freinds!

SaveBenjis:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMdm2gl9Hug
This is a very useful application for anybody who buys anything, which would be everybody. Simply type in what you are going to buy, or the barcode number if you have it, and it will display all of the cheapest places to buy the item, supplying the online link if necessary.

Shazam:
Application that listens to whatever is playing at the moment and will identify artist, song name, album art etc. Will also display itunes purchase link when available, very accurate!

SportsTap:
Feels very solid, I used the webapp before this native app came out and it feels much better. The quickest way to find out sports scores for any sport, and its free!

Super Monkey Ball:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8v0Y1Haa-oQ
Looks and smells great, a good indication of where gaming on the iPhone is headed. Be warned that the controls take a while to get used to and can be very frustrating. It boggles my mind as to why SEGA would condone a gameplay mechanic that involves turning the screen away from the player half of the time. Could very much use the update to include a sensitivity slider for the accelerometer and a calibration tool to choose your center to adhere for multiple sitting positions.

TapTapRevenge:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6HuXJy1J_w
Guitar Hero and Rock Band fans can't go wrong with these free iteration!

Texas Hold'em:
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Texas+Hold'em/news.asp?c=7622
A must for any poker fan alike, awesome graphics, easy fast gameplay and an intuitive camera system that reacts to the accelerometer. Easy purchase.

Trism:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=hy0ptZisr70
Easily the best puzzle game available in my opinion, very original concept, makes use of multiple directions, looks and sounds good and very solid.

Applications I hated and deleted:

Big Canvas Photoshare:
Crashed and never worked

zintin
Not enough features to even feel useful in your hand.

Limbo
Maybe I am just out of the loop, but I will stick with facebook.

BoxOffice
Never found my fav movie theatres.

Movies.app
Never found my fav movie theatres, movies very slow to stream.

Pangea VR
Useful for a VR photographer, but too slow to use for pure fun.
mate, you've got one of the best app selections. as soon as i saw the aqua forest, i purchased it in a snap. cheers for the youtube links.

Starmap

Since I haven't seen it mentioned, I'll add Starmap to the list of quality iPhone apps. Next time you're away from the permaglow of the city, gazing into the night sky, wondering what's what, whip out your iPhone and fire up Starmap. On one of my recent backpacking trips I was telling a friend how cool it would be if there were a device that, using time/date/GPS info, would draw the night sky. And now here it is...on my iPhone!

outside of your issue with finding your theaters, I have found box office and movies to be good. They both find my theaters in Austin and work well. I have not found a single movie app that does everything. I have the following on my iphone:

box office: best interface, schedules, buying, can rank by rotten tomatoes score
movies.app; adds trailers and stuff
tomatoes; quick search for rotten tomatoes reviews

No flight schedule app

I am amazed that there is not a good flight schedule and tracking application for all airlines. Am I missing one that exists?

My main problem with the apps is the ones that use the locate me feature. For some reason the darn thing says i am in Hong kong even though i am in NJ. Don't know where to find a restaurant here but found some boss Steakhouses in Hong kong.

Aqua Forest

Here are some screens and a review of Aqua Forest.

Overall Score: 4.5/5

It is a puzzle/free form game, which uses elements and other objects. The game also uses the accelerometer to its advantage.

The graphics, game play, and overall coolness of this game are it's strengths, basically it is awesome. There are a total of 50 puzzles, 10 in each of the 5 categories, providing for lots of fun and value. The only disadvantage is the game lags somewhat when there is a lot going on the screen. Hopefully this will be fixed in an update, but even still, this game is certainly worth the price!

So, in conclusion, if you haven't purchased this app already, do it now! It is great, and will only get better when it is updated to allow for better optimization.

Super Monkey Ball - 8/10
It has excellent graphics, smooth gameplay, and a variety of levels. However, the controls are a bit finicky and it is often frustrating. It could also do better with some minigames AND A SAVE FEATURE!

Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D - 7/10
This game also has good graphics. However, racing is not the smoothest. It is a bit choppy and could use some work. Collecting items is also difficult, because they are so darn small! The music is pretty bad as well, but this game has plenty of modes and tracks.

MotionX Poker: 4/5
Awesome app, only $4.99 Its a dice poker game that I never thought I'd play as much as I do but I find myself playing this more than Texas Hold Em app. It's very addicting so beware before buying it cause it'll consume your time.
Very enjoyable App good job on this one to whoever made it.

Looks awesome! What other games have you played and how would they compare to AquaForest? I'm trying to give myself a 25 dollar limit and this may make me spend closer to $30 :(

Very simple but very well made game. uses the accelerometer to detect shakes and rolls the dice with either numbers 1-6 or 9-A like cards. The 3D graphics are done very well for the iphone. One of the main aspects is the level of achievment throughout the game. You move up onto different tables to make more money, you unlock gems by doing special things (i.e 2 same exact hands in a row), and you unlock new dice(although i am unsure how they are unlocked, it seems to unlock randomly on good hands). It's a very fun game and one of the best in my opinion for the iphone.

I believe that this game just arrived at the app store in the last day or two, but it is an absolutely phenomenal iPhone game. This is exactly what I had in mind when I first thought of iPhone games.

I believe (and could be wrong here) that it is a port of an old Sega CD game. It is an RPG very much in the style of the Final Fantasy series (read: turn based combat).

The graphics and sound serve the game well, and the overall feel of the game is good. I am at the very beginning, so I can't speak too much of the story, but it is standard RPG fare.

What I love most about this game is the brilliant implementation of touch controls. Tap on a spot to walk to it, double tap to run in a straight direction. It sounds very simple, but when you actually use it, it really shines.

Overall, this app is definitely worth the $4.99 asking price. I paid $9.99 for both Super Monkey Ball (pretty good) and Crash Bandicoot (slightly better than Monkey Ball), and I think that this game is more entertaining than both.

If you like RPGs, definitely check this one out. To find it, just search for Vay in the app store.... otherwise you have to go through pages upon pages upon pages upon pages of apps.

Overall Score: 4.7/5.0

I only have bought Super Monkey Ball, so in comparison, they are two completely different games. But both are great, and SMB will probably drive you crazy at first, but it gets to be a lot easier once you learn the controls.

App review

Splash ID - 7/10. I like it it. Keeps my passwords safe and sound. Does a much better job than notes.

Voice Notes. 6/10. Paid about £6 if I remember. Probably overpriced but was a necessary addition.

OmniFocus. 6/10 Paid about £12. Again overpriced and until it links to calendar I think it will be of limited value.

Evernote. Free. 7/10 I like it a lot. I think as I get used to it will be of even more value.

Shazam. Free. 10/10 Amazing. I now officially feel old. You know when you showed your gran your ipod and she said "Aw isn't that amazing; all your records in that little box" I now know how she feels. I technically understand it; I'm just amazed that it works.

File Magnet 3/10. Paid £3. A bit of a waste of time. Have to be on wifi so if I want the file I'll look on my mac.

Salesforce. 6/10. Free. A lot of potential here. A bit complicated to set up but will be great for work.

Sketches. 7/10. About £6. good fun drawing application. Worth a punt.

Near Pics. 2/10 Not much use really

Snap my Life 2/10 Ditto

Birthdays. 6/10. £4 I think. OK but would be much better if it back fed into my calendar.

Where 4/10 prefer Prefer Maps I think. Have not got 3G so that may make if more useful. Painfully slow to render..

Itip 3/10. A bit of a waste of time

BA Flights. 7/10 Good to have UK Specific app but I really want the BBC iPlayer. Come on Apple and BBC - Do the deal.

Pinball 6/10 Good fun although a bit small to follow.

MonkeyBall, Crash Bandicoot, Ms Pacman, Cro Mag: Not a massive gamer but quite good fun if I'm bored on the train. There are more comprehensive reviews here than mine.

Facebook 5/10 - No wall, No tagging. Sort it out Facebook

AIM. 4/10 Not enough of my friends use often enough to make it useful

Enigmo 9/10 £5.99. great game. Absolutley doing my nut in. Very addictive be careful. Also quite hard. I'm stuck on level 8!

Maybe uninstall/reinstall or check for an update, mine has an option to view the wall (should be directly under your profile picture); selecting it takes me to a screen that shows all my wall entries with "Write something" at the top.

Don't buy Cloverfield

Whatever you do . . . . don't buy Splash ID if you need to sync

It doesn't sync for a lot of users . . . . This iPhone app was not ready for Prime Time . . . . probably rushed out of the door

Ok, so here are the apps I have and my impressions of each:

Facebook: this was the first app I downloaded and I love it. with the update it's even better. I really didn't understand why people didn't like it so much at launch - I figured it was good for the first day and it was updated pretty quickly, should get even better.

Myspace: Once again, I have to go against the grain with this one. This app is terribly disappointing, much like the actual site. It is slow, unresponsive, and doesn't even display the correct bulletins most of the time. The Facebook app takes you straight to your home - this one makes you wait while it signs you in EVERY time. I was actually excited about this app, because I don't go to Myspace very often and I wanted to keep up with it. Hope this one updates quickly.

Google: just starting to dig into this one, but just what you'd expect.

WeatherBug: Not as great as I was hoping, but loads better than the Weather that the iPhone came with (which is NEVER accurate in my hometown). It's not quite as good as the Weather.com webapp, but it loads much quicker.

SportsTap: Awesome to have all those scores in one place. Not very fond of the interface (kinda boring), but very useful. Definite keeper, especially when futbol season rolls around.

MLB.com: this one just feels cool. It doesn't have everything I'd like (Like a "Gameday" option), but I'm not gonna complain. The video highlights are gold. Does have a little trouble updating occasionally.

Pandora: Wow. But those of us who love the website knew that. Still cool.

HolyBible: I chose this app because it's from LifeChurch.tv, and I've only needed it once so far (I forgot my Bible and was teaching a class - whoops!). Worked really well, and I like that it has multiple versions. Very handy for people like me who like 3 different ones. The app kinda needs a home page.

BoxOffice: I've been keeping an eye on the movies.app one, but this one's free. I hear movies.app has the trailers, but usually I've already seen those. This has Rotten Tomatoes ratings next to the movies, but I don't use that a lot. What was really cool was that it found my location, found my theater, and then showed me showtimes very quickly. Links to Fandango. At free, pretty unbeatable.

Shazam: Another wow. absolutely amazing. Cool just to play with.

I just got two others, but haven't used them yet. I'm hoping there's enough people in my area to make Grafitio cool.

Peace
Scott

Wine Snob - Waste of Money!

I am a wine fan and purchased both Wine Log and Wine Snob. I have a palm pda and had purchased Wine Enthuisast and really liked it, so I thought these apps would be cool. Wine Log does as it says, no problem. But Wine Snob does nothing! It is just terminology that any wine fan already knows. Not worth the money! Would love to see Wine Enthusiast come up with an iphone app!

Hmmm... unless I'm mistaken, you just have to transfer the file from your mac onto your phone and then it's yours to take with you.

I've got a bunch of PDFs and Word docs on my iPhone in FileMagnet that I can access anywhere.
