One of the big important unknowns is the external support.
At the moment it is unclear for a lot of people what external display will work with the new arm based M1 Apple chips.

Maybe it is a good idea that people here on this forum post their setup that is working.
I don’t want to start a topic about 2 external screens as we don’t know what screens will perform with M1 chips.

Is it possible to post your working setup?
- what Mac are you using?
- do you use a docing station or not?
- what screen do you use: manufacturer, type, inch, ha, ...
- a photo is welcome :)

what I want to know: are bigger screens working working with a MacBook Pro like:
- dell u3419w (60 hz)
- dell u4320q (60 hz)
- lg 34wk95u (60 hz)
- others

"bigger" screens has nothing to do with anything. It's all about resolution.

Any standards-compliant display that runs a standard resolution at a standard refresh rate should work fine, no matter what.

If you're trying to use a single 1080p, 1440p, or 4K display at 60 Hz, it will work.

If you're trying to use a single 5K or 6K display at 60 Hz, it will work over Thunderbolt 3 port.

If you're using a Mac Mini, you can use one "up to 6K display" over Thunderbolt 3 port plus one up to 4K display over HDMI.

There are multiple reports of ultra-wide displays, and displays greater than 60 Hz, working.

The one thing that *doesn't* work is two or more displays on MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, or three or more displays on Mac Mini. (Using standard video ports - using not-run-by-GPU, data-based displays like AirPlay, SideCar, or DisplayLink works.)

What I'm using:

Mac Mini M1
HP G2 Thunderbolt 3 docking station
Paired Samsung U28E590 4K 60 Hz displays, one over DisplayPort through the HP docking station, the other over HDMI. I have also connected directly to Thunderbolt 3 port using DisplayPort-to-USB-C instead of through the dock. But one over HDMI at all times.

I don’t want to put a bee in anyone’s bonnet, but I don’t think there are any compatibility problems with brands of monitors? I haven’t heard any real proof anyway. As far as I’m aware you can only use screens up to what’s described in the machines specifications, like any other system.

M1 MacBook Air w/ 16GB SoC works great with my 4K Acer XV273K via the Digital AV Adapter over HDMI at 60Hz. As far as I know it doesn't support 4K 120Hz, but I don't mind 60Hz for macOS. High refresh only really matters to me for PC gaming.
 
macbook air M1 base model, connected to my main 40" 4K 60p Samsung , via thunderbolt 3 adapter to hdmi, editing with Davinci resolve.

- M1 8/256 MBP
- No docking station
- Samsung Q50 32" 4K (60hz) connected via UCB-C to HDMI. The HDMI end of the cable gets hot to the touch, but no issues whatsoever running the screen.

Very infrequently, much less of an issue than my 2018 model. The one time it happened, unplugging / re plugging the HDMI cable fixed it.

I have this same monitor. It works plugged in directly, or through an HP Thunderbolt Dock (which is the only way I can get the LG display to work properly with my Coffee Lake Windows PC that I use for work).

Since a lot of you are running 32” 4K screens as well. I’m having some issues with my LG 32UK550B;

In the scaling settings 3360 x 1890 is missing (this is what I used on my 15" MBP). After some searching in the display information, my Mac recognises it as 27" instead of 32". Maybe that's why the correct options are missing.

Could you guys check if you do have this option available?

Are you using a single USB-C cable for power, video, and USB data? Do you happen to use the KVM feature to switch between the notebook and a desktop?

Does it work with 2 monitors? If so what resolution and refresh rate?

Actually, you can use multiple stardock USB to HDMI Adapters to run additional 4K Monitors next to your main external display.
 
Dell UltraSharp U3419W 34" Curved LED - Works fine at 3880x1440 60Hz with usb-c and charges Macbook at the same time.
