I went with black this time around. I had the blue for the 5 and i loved it, i'll likely order the blue and red at some point as well. I love these cases

The red one looks really nice. For my iPad Mini 2, I went with a Product Red smart cover. Its also very nice looking. :)

I had a hard time deciding if I should go overboard with 2x E5 xeons v2, some other workstation grade hardware (ecc ram, supermicro mobo etc) along with a new OEM quadro K6000 I've found on ebay at a very competitive price, but it was way too high cost/cost recovery/output ratio to make it a clever purchase at this point. maybe later when I'll be post-producing the Matrix 4 - Reccurences

oh wait this is a mac forum!

on a side note, an acquaintance of mine told me today that he has a friend that can hackintosh (steady builds too) a computer out of any hardware irrelevant of the hardware suggestions on tonymacos86x and relevant wikis. He already has a 3 year old machine which has worked for him with no issues and is already updated to Mavericks..! It does sound too good to be true, but I'll give him a call soon enough for a look-see.

But will it come in cool aluminium case with a glowing apple logo?

I used Tonymac originally, but rather than having my build break on every update, I tweaked on my own and am also running Mavericks, and working on upgrading to Yosemite. It's not too good to be true by a long shot. But it will require a significantly higher frustration tolerance than purchasing an Apple machine.

If you're the type of person who laughs at "Warranty void if removed" stickers, then I'd say go for it. It does help to have access to an Apple machine, though. :)

Thanks much for the input and well done for having such a frustration tolerance!! I'm kind of an exploding personality when stuff do not work or break down.

Do you maintain a thread here ref your procedures and workarounds? (unless of course MR prohibits it)

It does help to have one specked like this, and no, I don't laugh at those warranty stickers. The reason I purchased everything locally, was the 3 year warranty they all came with, so if any modding is going to happen, it will be software level only. If any hard modding is required, it ain't going to happen during the 3 year period of the warranty validity.

There are several reasons I did not go for a macpro which I contemplated about, but not for long.

1. I need cuda cores for use with After Effects and 3DS. Fire Pro D300 don't have. Of course this can spur a whole thread itself, regarding performances between the two, so better not get into more.
2. I need to be able to tweak/upgrade the machine myself at any time, instead of relying on local Authorized Service Providers (no official Apple in Greece) who take their time, mind you, to fix it/upgrade it. Plus, cost to upgrade a pc is significantly lower and there are far more options.
3. I prefer the 3 year warranty across all hardware instead of the 1 year Apple insists in providing for sales in Europe (2 years mandatory) and extorting us to purchase Apple Care on top of that, which is significantly higher for MacPros.
4. The cost of the machine I built, only reaches the base model MacPro with the only upside of the quad xeon @ 3.7 ghz. Ram is at 12Gb DDR3 (which is laughable), a 256 ssd and 4gb of split gddr (2x2). Of course the macpro is finely tuned by default in comparison to my custom build which I have to bring to par, but I partly overspec it at the same cost. I can even push this machine to 64Gb of ram for a measly 500EUR.

In any case, thanks again for jotting down your thoughts on the hackintosh!

edit--
apparently x99s are not supported yet for hackintosh, and probably ddr4 won't be supported either.
edit2--
no it does!!

I don't have a thread here, as I don't think it would be appropriate. I think you made some really good choices on your workstation. If you decide you want to try hackintoshing (it's a word now!), PM me any questions you run into. I'm happy to help. :)

My last purchase that I'm waiting on: Some custom NikeID running shoes. The estimated wait is 25 - 30 days for delivery. The left shoe tongue will say "geek" and the right will say "girl".

They are finally doing anti-glare screens? When I got my m14xr2 back in 2013 as well, none of their computers had it which was a bummer. I still have my M14x and it is still a beast. Replaced everything that is replaceable though to better parts (more ram/ ssd / AC wifi card / removed optical drive ). Feels completely different than a Mac, but in a good way.

I am looking for a gaming laptop as well for the same reason as you. I can't wait for Warlords of Draenor. What server do you play on?

I actually forgot that I am still waiting for this as well. Called into customer service today just to get an idea about the shipping date and they said "sometime after Thanksgiving," just in case anyone else had ordered!
