I was going to post my latest Penzeys Spices order but the box showed up on my porch already and I unpacked the stuff and stashed it away without thinking of an unboxing photo! So, next time.

Anyway this time I got Madagascar vanilla beans, Turkish bay leaves, French thyme, some brown mustard seeds, I dunno, two or three other things I was running short of. Dried celery leaves which are not easy to find around here for some reason and I often run out of the ones I clip and dry myself from fresh product. They threw in a freebie that's wonderful in my navy bean and carrot soup instead of just thyme and salt. It's called "Tsardust Memories" (hah!) and is a rich concoction of salt, garlic, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg and marjoram. I can see it being just wonderful in stews, casseroles, veggie burgers etc. Love it already.

I love Penzeys, they pack the herbs and spices in glass containers, not plastic, and they wrap and double-wrap in sheets of recyclable newsprint-style paper which in my house has plenty ways of getting re-used. The products are fresh, clearly labeled as to content and origin, never had a complaint about anything. Nothing has ever broken in transit. Plus their catalog (which you can download from a handy button on their home page) is lots of fun to read through. All the products are listed with what's in them, plus recipes, letters from fans and from Penzey staff, it's a gas. They're the best! They have retail stores so surely many of you have bumped into them, but if not, and if you like to cook and to experiment with herbs new to your cooking, check them out: http://www.penzeys.com/

Canon EOS Rebel T5 for my wife for our wedding anniversary, along with a 75-300mm Telephoto lens. I've jumped through so many hoops to order this in such a way that she won't know, it gives me a headache thinking about it. Will be worth it when she gets it. Should get to my parent's place around Wednesday, even have an alibi to go over and get it.

Air bag clock spring for my Saab. Orderd it a week ago, still hasnt arrived.... Also got my second ticket yesterday for the airbag light being on. Clearly, basic logic is beyond them. No part = no repair.

It's a picture thread. I'm sure you must have a picture from there website or something. Personally I prefer to see furniture in the flesh rather than order online.

I didn't order them online, and nowhere did I suggest that I did.

In fact, I bought the tables from the people who made them in the country where they were made, in the shop where they were displayed, and physically handled them; this is because I, too, would not buy furniture online, as I prefer to be able to see whatever piece I wish to buy in its glorious physicality before deciding to buy anything of the sort…... They are being shipped home (I hope) as I write…..

And no, I don't have a picture of them. Actually, I don't have digital camera (I still use film), and nor, for that matter, do I have a smartphone (although I am beginning to think I may have to contemplate yielding a little on this issue)…...

I stand corrected. It was an easy assumption to make.
A smartphone is great to use when out and about. I was a little late to the party on that one as well (iPhone 4). But now I have got used to having the Internet/email/video calling in my pocket, I wouldn't want to go back to just calls and texts.

Just ordered this Chinese 19th century decorated jade box, certified to be from between 1850 and 1895.

Very elegant and attractive; I love such beautiful objects.

Where did you spot this, or order this from?

A few months ago, I had a star sapphire ring made, very plain, (the fashion in the country where I work is for extraordinarily ornate design which I don't much care for) in white gold with a silver alloy (it was not possible to have it made from platinum); I also got star sapphire cufflinks (the same plain, white gold & silver design), and, in addition, bought two star sapphires for my mother and will have ear-rings made for her, as her birthday is this week, although I will be in London.

Are they to store your coffee beans in?

Not air tight...or large enough for more than a few beans! It's about 3" wide and 2" tall...not many beans...

I bought it because I love jade, will enjoy looking at it, and will store my jade ring in it.

Excellent.

My brother has been suggesting that having access to various useful apps might be a worthwhile investment; I am beginning to think that he may have a point, and may have to consider yielding on this matter…..

Re the tables, well, they are lovely, beautifully carved, and extraordinarily attractive, as well as quite different from one what can get in the west…..

I bought this on Ebay. There are a couple of very beautiful, very small, celedón green, translucent round boxes, but this was too expensive to allow for any additional purchases.

Well, it is lovely, but I am sure you will find your way to making further such purchases (I had only ever intended to buy one star sapphire…….and then, somehow, well, one thing led to another, as it tends to do….)

I think we share an similar view on these matters; namely, that one's quality of life is immeasurably enhanced by the contemplation, and daily use of beautiful objects……

Actually, I will confess myself surprised if there are not further jade purchases chateau/chez toi; slippery slopes, and all that…...

Objects such as this, and other object d'art, just make the mundane activities of everyday life more pleasing...from Colonel Littleton items, to Mont Blanc pens, to a jade ring box...they enrich my enjoyment of day-to-day activities. And I am fortunate enough, and profligate enough, to make them part of my life!

Oh, I think that I have a very good idea of where you are coming from, and I find myself in full agreement with you. Indeed, the contemplation of beautiful objects, and the use of them (for, I do not subscribe to the idea of simply locking them away in a cupboard or display cabinet) is something I, too, find contribute to my enjoyment of day to day activities…..

For dinner, I prefer a table cloth, proper crockery, glassware…..to make an occasion of the event. Likewise, Colonel Little ton (and thank you, again, for drawing my attention to this excellent brand), Mont Blanc pens (guilty, m'lud, and have been for a few years now), and such like, well, it is all about standards, and the enjoyment of that which is good, and seeing that which is good, good company, good food, beautiful objects, and living a life well….

I know this was a bit ago, but I love this style!

@tyche got it right. It's a Shag serigraph called, 'The Bored Heiress.' It looks like the edition of 150 prints sold out in the last few days. Coincidentally, I am expecting it to arrive via Fedex this afternoon.
