this doesn't look like much, but it is a fresh ground patty with a mixture of chuck and pork belly - medium grind. it is so much better than regular hamburger.

my wife made a super tasty "crustless" pumpkin pie. we are definitely having this for thanksgiving.

last night i made oxtail soup (hawaii/chinese style). i totally forgot the mustard cabbage which is sitting in my fridge.

and i had to buy a minimum quantity of peanuts, so i boiled the rest. so tasty!

Some chicken shawarma (comes with vegetable rice, lafa bread and you guessed it, hummus) - and kabab tucked inside lafa bread with hummus, mixed salad and fries.

I had some שווארמה in DC, but it was pretty bad. Forgot to take pictures of the food I got from food trucks. Best thing about huge cities, those food trucks.. Took pictures of the chinese food I got, but I haven't uploaded all of my pictures anywhere yet. I just got home about 2 hours ago.

Depends who makes it and in what style ;) Also, I would never have gotten chicken but it was the only kind made. Typically chicken just doesn't cut it for shawarma. Nonetheless, it tasted very good.

The best is when it's made from lamb.

Here's the Chinese food that I ate in Washington DC.

This was called the "Happy Family"

Those look great. Love the packaging. Are they good?

Might order some as a gift if they are.

Dang that looks good! I'm sooooo jealous. Where I am in AZ just can't get anything close to that. I miss New York. :(

Looks good as usual, Mr K. Well, you can hold the filet-a-fish. ;)

This was my lunch today. Take-out lunch. It's a portuguese speciality (from the north of portugal) called "Francesinha" or "Little french girl"...i know, strange but very delicious. The original recepie is, between 3 slices of bread, two types of meat (steak) and sausache. The top slice of bread as melted cheese and all of these rests in a special sauce made with bechamel and other ingredients, on the side some french fries.

This version (lite version lol) as no sauce e instead of bread as slices of eggplant, on the side salad with orange instead of french fries lol

Enjoy

food from the thanksgiving weekend...

had another proper steak on wednesday

002-vi.jpg

went pretty traditional on thanksgiving. went to a large potluck and brought a tasty ham.

004-vi.jpg

for the first time, i had kalua turkey. they cooked it hawaiian style in an imu (pit), same for the pork.

005-vi.jpg

on saturday, we did a family meal and ordered this little guy

017-vi.jpg

also ordered a bunch of other chinese food - duck, clams, tendon stew, noodles and veg

had to give these a try. way over-rated...

2-vi.jpg

for me, no better salad than a wedge. i made some buttermilk, bacon ranch from scratch.

001-vi.jpg

old skool tuna casserole :D

002-vi.jpg

hawaiian style tripe stew, kim chee and nori

003-vi.jpg

made a batch of flank steak jerky. this one was a light teriyaki, 1 hour in the smoker and 2 more in the oven.

004-vi.jpg

saw this on TV so i tried my own version. i used a simple kalua pig recipe for my pulled pork and added a little north carolina style bbq sauce to the patties. the braised cabbage is practically verbatim. peaches are not in season so i used apples which i pickled. i added some cheddar, jalapeno grits for starch. it came out pretty good. next time, i think i'll use greens instead of cabbage.

homestyle torta
