I don't think I've ever bought myself a camera until lately. Just got this camera a few weeks ago. I'm no expert but am having a good time learning.

After about 4 year depression from not getting into national geographic as photographer, I finally started again.

Nikon D5000 arrived last friday, and so did 18-55mm lens two days after that, 55-200 arriving hopefully soon, 70-300 next week I hope. Tamron 300-500 should be coming in next few months.

Pictures coming up when I'm able :)

I'll have to get a photo of it up soon but I've made some large additions to my photography tool collection.

Here's the entire list:

Pentax Gear:
Pentax PZ-70 (?) 35 mm film SLR body.
Pentax (can't remember the name) film P&S camera.
Pentax K10D digital SLR body.
Pentax Optio S50 digital P&S camera.

Pentax DA 18-55 f/3.5-5.6
Pentax FA 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 power zoom (the zooming function is done by a motor, it's pretty funny)
Pentax FA 50 mm f/1.4
Sigma 28-200 (can't remember the aperture information, but it's not great)
Some other old fully manual 28-200 zoom.
Pentax AF-540 FGZ flash.

Nikon Gear:
Nikon F1 35 mm film SLR body.
Nikon D700 digital SLR body
Nikkor 35 f/2.8 manual lens
some zoom that I haven't used in a long time.
Nikkor 85 f/1.8 D
Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 AF-S (on order)
Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 AF-S VR (deciding on whether or not to wait for the new one)
Contemplating a Nikon or Sigma 50 f/1.4
Contemplating a Sigma 150 f/2.8 macro
Nikon SB-900 speedlight.

I also have a Canon Powershot 780IS.

We love photography at my house.

Edit: Here's a shot of all of the stuff I've got at my home right now. The Nikon 35 mm stuff is at my mothers house. The Pentax P&S isn't there since that's what I used to take this photo. The Nikkor zooms aren't there because I've not picked them up just yet.

I just realized that I've come a long way since I bought my first digital camera 4 years ago (Canon S1 IS)

I remember buying a Raynox macro lens to attach to it and feeling like I was holding a mini-shotgun :p

Now, 4 years later, I can safely say that my photography hobby is going strong!

This is my current photo equipment (not counting tripods and such)

1.- Canon 100mm Macro lens
2.- Set of Kenko extension tubes (12, 20 and 36mm) for a total of 68mm
3.- Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 Ultra Wide Angle lens with included hood
4.- Canon XTi + 18-55mm kit lens + BG-E3 Battery grip
5.- Sigma 50mm f1.4 with included hood
6.- Canon Speedlite 430 EX II
7.- Canon Ring Flash MR-14 EX
8.- Stroboframe bracket + Adorama off-shoe cord

The kit lens was on my camera for the sole reason that it's the only lens that won't make my camera tip forward when I place it upright. My "walkaround" lens is the 50mm f1.4. Oh, and the battery grip is simply awesome.

Very nice cameras. How do you like the Canon 780IS? I was looking at it and but went with the Sony W290 instead, which I love.

Time to bump this thread up.

We are heading to NYC for business next week and the idea sparked in my head that I could be doing some DSLR video while there... so I went shopping.

 Jeez! I wish I could "just go shopping" and pick up $5000+ in glass. Very nice collection you got there!

What do you think of the Zeiss 50? I'm thinking of upgrading my Canon 50mm 1.8 cheapy to the 1.4. Is the Zeiss worth the $200 or so premium on the used market in your opinion?

Hi Matt,
I have personally not used the 50/1.8, so I can not draw direct comparisons. The Zeiss lens is a wonderfully solid piece of engineering, it is built like a tank and only offers MF. Like other ZF/ZE glass, it has a special look to it. The OOF area / bokeh has a certain quality to it that I can't really put in written word. In terms of micro-contrast, it gives images a wonderful 3D-ish look, especially wide open.

If you don't mind manual focus, you will definitely find a great performer in the ZE 50/1.4. As far as I know, the legendary ZF 35/1.4 will soon find its way to the Canon mount, too. Definitely worth looking at!

Next week I have 135/2 and 85/1.2 II coming in the mail, which I am VERY excited about.

Cool! Yeah, I've looked into it in the past, and saw it's only MF, which I'm usually okay with on a lens like this, since it'll be more for portraiture and not action shots. I'd really, really, like to get it, and good impressions like yours always help a little in swaying me over the edge and pulling out the debit card :p

Have fun with the 85/1.2. It's probably one of the most solid lenses I've ever handled; just so.much.glass. I shoot crop, so it's a little long for me, but there's no doubt it's one of the nicest Canon lenses out there.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the 100mm macro L, I'm extremely interested in that new piece of glass. GREAT group of lenses you got there.

The 100mm Macro L is a marvelous lens. Extremely sharp, quick to focus, the IS gives you two stops (I think), plus it makes for a great portrait lens, too. Recommended!

The Carl Zeiss T Distagon 35mm f2 was released recently, although having little knowledge of Zeiss lenses, I'm not sure if it's the one you were talking about.

You are right, I was talking about the 2/35, my bad!
