My router is, as the box says, NETGEAR 54Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (WG121).

:confused:

Ah, that's not a router, that's just an adapter. So you are wireless and USB, quite a few things can come into play - the configuration of the ActionTech on his side, how far you are from it, what physical barriers there are between you, etc. You'll never truly see 54mbps through it, but you should be getting up into the 20s atleast.

I'm fully cabled to directly to the FiOS router, so there are no network delays to that point.

:eek: I hate you....j/k....

Starting May 11, the Bethpage, N.Y.-based cable operator will offer speeds of up to 101 megabits per second downstream throughout its service area, and 15 Mbps upstream. Cablevision has three million subscribers in the New York metro area.

It's also only $99/mo vs the $135/mo I pay for my FiOS. I'm tempted to switch back, but I'll give Verizon a few more months and see if they change to compete. Cablevision in the past was known to throttle and cap...supposedly this new service-tier isn't, but it makes me wary of them. Verizon doesn't hasn't fiddled with the network limits at all still preaching the "we have however much everyone needs" mantra for their FTTH.

Well, he lives on the topmost floor of a 4-level building.

I guess that's why?

They installed the FiOS stuff in our basement, though.

that is faster then my speed when i am upcapped. he should stop complaining. ;)

Lol... I know, meh, right now I'm back in my home country, it sucks in Internet bandwidth here. 1Mb/s is the lowest you can get, the highest? Take a guess? No? Well, it's 2Mb/s. Man are we left behind. Although its a definite improvement over 4 years ago where 256Kb/s was touching heaven and 128Kb/s was ending standard. And 6 years ago people were still on 56Kb/s:eek:

Sorry that was done for security reason's Sorry I couldn't show that.

I knew it, you're a CIA agent!:eek::D

now a days getting cable. ADSL2+ is sort of coming out, but only one company rules that domain outside of cities. they better hurry up and make it competitive.

my friend lives 20mins away from me and he has "half" dial up. his lines are so bad he only connects at 20kb (thats bits, not bytes) at best - he downloads as about 2kBps!!!!! funny stuff.
