That would be, in order from left to right:

Finder, Safari, Camino, Mail, iTunes, Adium, Photoshop CS3, World of Warcraft, Pixelmator, AppZapper, Joost, Transmisson, Photo Booth, Skitch, Ventrilo, Linkinus, Limewire, Time Machine, Backup Time Machine*, Empty Trash*, System Preferences, Terminal, Activity Monitor | Applications, Downloads, and of course the Trash.

*Buttons that when pressed perform a specific action, called Dockables.

ok, as you can see on me desktop there's a dragthing dock on the side, and the main dock at the bottom. i put more shortcuts on the side dock - it's now minimised on the right side.

I keep my dock full and for me it's easier that way to launch the programmes.

My Dock from Windows Vista

They are a set of toobars docked to the bottom of the screen and set to AlwaysOnTop and Auto Hide. (The windows Taskbar is at the top of the screen where is should be).

Using this means I rarely ever have to use the Windows Start menu. Not sure when Apple introduced it's Dock, but it has surved me well since MS introduced dockable toolbars in Windows 2000. It's pretty ugly as I've not updated the Icons in a while.

My first Mac (A Macbook Pro) arrives tomorrow

It's CS3, he just changed the icons. I have the same set, but I forget where I got them.
