Could anyone tell me what this hard drive is like

*My Book HD*

As im thinking of getting it, also, what would be better to use Firewire or eSata, sorry dont really know!

Thanks
If the only computer you have is that iMac, then you can't really use the eSATA as Macs don't come with eSATA ports. You would need to have a MBP and use an expresscard expansion card to add eSATA ports, or Mac Pro with a PCI card.

Oh ok, is there much difference between FW (that this drive uses) and USB 2.0

Uh Oh

I'm outta here. I suggest the search function for this particular question because it always brings up heated debates , iwth the winner being firewire and it's superior speed and general all round fire-wire lovely-ness :p

FW400 = better, faster , meaner & leaner than USB2

Lol, just wanted a quick answer :)

Firewire is a bit faster than USB, especially for extended use.

Ok cheers..Should I go for that drive above then?

:) Pretty much any drive will do, just gt one with as many ports as you can afford so if one breaks down you can still use the others .

What exactly do you intend to use the drive for?.

Actually, I have some nyquist, bode, and black plots laying around, but they aren't.... mostly Q Factor vs damping ratio... you know... basics... but, hey EE ftw...

Storage and Time Machine back up.
Just go for what you like then, with as many ports as possible as I mentioned earlier, I asked what you'd use it for basically because if you needed the drive for audio/video apps like Serato or Final Cut and the like which work better with a faster spin rate, I'd have suggested particular drives, as it is any drive will do basically, just go for the biggest size you can with as many ports as possible as speed is not a concern for you.
You could buy a case and then fit a drive into it yourself ( tis easy, they just slide in and click -your done) this way works out a bit cheaper usually and you could probably get two for almost the price of one ready made drive, as they say, you can never have too many backups :)

You could get a case which holds two drives or more if you wanted too and set it up to be raid etc , folks on here will walk you through it I'm sure .

Cases and drives to go in them can be ordered from places like OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/ or newegg http://www.newegg.com/Store/Category.aspx?Category=15&name=Hard-Drives
Don't be put off making your own as I was when I first looked into it , really it is simple to do.

let us know how you get on .
