has usb2 & firewire. 500GB. Time Machine only. works fine but loud as hell. :(
plus it doesn't go to sleep w/ my iMac and the silly light is on or pulsing almost all the time. but it works.

here's my personal media one: (120gb)

Works beautifully, only £30 on ebay.

And here's the 1tb monster that is my family's network (personal and global) external hard drive, all photos and music synced on there and backups, it phonominal.

NICE. What kind of ports does it have?
I think I might end up getting a 2TB version of yours' with firewire and eSATA.

Have you seen this?

Too lazy to take another photo of my stuff..

g-tech 500Gb . 2 x FW400 . 1x USB2 . been ok , quick enough, solid build.
Little bit peeved when i got it though, it was just before the alu macbooks came out and I was intending to us it with the FW on the new MB, noooo FW on the new MB is there!. so I use this drive hooked up to an old iMac G3 now till I decide what to do....... in the mean time I hope a new Mini comes out.

USB 2.0 is technically faster (480mb/s) than Firewire 400 (400mb/s)
What's the holdup?

Not in a sustained race. Use firewire, then USB on the same drive while moving a few gigs, firewire is almost twice as fast. Those numbers a theoretical maximums, not real world usage.

I realize the numbers are peak speeds. How big of files are you talking about? I move 7 gig folders to my USB drive all the time in about ~2 mins.
Not trying to get into a FW vs USB debate here, but USB is pretty fast.

The OP said they weren't using it bc their Macbook didn't have FW. The speed difference isn't enough to NOT use the drive. That was what I was trying to convey ;)
