Would someone point out names of these drives below please

Bottom one is through macsales.com (OWC). I ordered one of these, they are a dual drive setup, can be raided or set up as one drive or two independent. However there is a fan on it.

I returned mine because they sent me the wrong one, they sent me only a raidable unit.

Going to order through them a mac mini enclosure to use as a NAS for my network, will look great with my airport extreme.

Thanks, I bet we can't get those in Europe , you guys have the luck with products over their.

Btw where are you getting the mac mini enclosure from , the same place? , I didn't think you could buy a Mini with out the internals

Just picked up this LaCie 1TB drive. Does the trick I guess

Me too. I love the minimal look. And it blends right into my black desk.

how do you like this drive? i want to get the 500gb version of it.

I'm happy with it. It's a bit noisy, but I bought it for reliability (which I thought was worth the extra dollars), and I don't run it that often since it's just used as a backup of my Time Capsule's original files. I want to make sure that, if my Time Capsule goes, everything is either on my MPB or G-Drive. And it does come with an eSATA cable if you're buying the Q, which is nice.

Edit: Oh, and, uh... make sure it's someplace where the cables wont get tugged at all or it WILL come unplugged.

Built my own one using...

Thermaltake VI-ON 3.5" External Enclosure

Seagate 500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive

It's great and cheap. Runs fast. Paid less than 100.

I built one from a Bytecc Me-320 Firewire enclosure and a Maxtor 300GB, 7200RPM hard drive with 16MB cache.
I use it for backup.

1TB WD x2 (one mirror edition, one single-drive)
750GB WD x2
500GB WD
500GB Lacie NAS
250GB WD portable

Probably a couple more...but that's the majority of them. ;)

Is it easy to use?

Just got it. 1 Terabyte WD My Book Studio Edition for Time Machine, Storage and Back Up. Love it so far.

Hey, so is it easy to use? Does it require software from WD, or can I just plug it in and use it without using any software......other than Time Machine of course....

I'm mostly going to use it for extra storage for my late 2008 Macbook, I'll be putting anything from documents to movies into it and some backups.

How's Apple's Time Capsule?

So, I've been reading alot of the post and have definitely determined that 99.9% of Mac users prefer FW over USB2.0...

So, here is the question. Since I just got a late 2008/early 2009 Macbook....should I just get the Time Capsule from Apple?

Its 1TB and can be used wirelessly and can double up as a wireless access point.

Suggestions, comments, advice?

My needs: More storage space for documents, music files, movies, and back ups. AND the avility to access the external HD and grab a file that I need and put it back when I'm done....on a constant basis.

go for it. I have a tb TC and 3 macs in the house and they back up like clockwork.

Wouldn't you rather pay like 150$ less and get a 1TB External for close to 110$, and just hook that over USB/ethernet into your router?

how do you like this drive? i want to get the 500gb version of it.

I use two 1TB models that i use with my MacPro. I use one with Time Machine and the other as a backup for my second internal hard drive. I like G-tech a lot, they also go very well with my Mac.

Am looking for some external storage for a new Mini

A nice FW800 7200rpm drive that would go well with the Mini for audio work...

Any pointers ?

thanks

#1 tip: buy them seperately. that way you can choose your preferred HD and external case.
ah , was just going to buy ready done...was thinking someone might have made a version of their drive or an enclosure , you know, made for the Mini but with a FW800 port now the Mini has that....there are loads of made for mini out there but all have firewire 400 as far as I know .....wanting new updated, anyone seen any yet ?
