What I have just sold
Nikon D2Xs
Nikon D2h
Nikon 300mm f/2.8 VR
Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR
Nikon 28-70mm v/2.8
Nikon 12-24mm f/4

What is still for sale
Nikon F5

What that leave me with
Nikon D200 w/MB-200
Two Nikon D70
Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8
Two Nikon 18-70mm f/3.5 - 4.5

Well, I sold off the 24-70, and the 17-40. They were great lenses that were solid workhorses.

I just couldn't get the "magic" with them. Other people do, constantly - and it's frustrating (maybe a little less so with the 17-40). So I sent those up the river, and ordered the 35 f/1.4L. A few of my friends have it, and they say it's the sharpest lens they've ever had. One of those friends even has the 135 f/2L, and he says his 35 is consistently sharper. If it's even close to the 135, I'll be stoked.

I got a chance to shoot with it, and I was blown away that even at only 35mm, there is still some really, really nice background diffusion happening. Shooting at 1.4 was not even a concern. The few images I got to shoot with it were all tack sharp.

It was supposed to be here yesterday, but Adorama screwed up and shipped it three day - so it should arrive tomorrow.

I'll only have three lenses in my main bag now - which for me is a big change, and kind of scary.

I affectionately dubbed the three - the 35 1.4, the 85 1.2, and 70-200 2.8 IS - The Towers of Power™. Yes, I'm a nerd, and no, I don't care if everyone knows it.

Well, I've made some new additions (new stuff in italics):

Camera:
Canon XTi

Lenses:
50mm f/1.8
Tokina 19-35 f/3.5-4.5
Tamron 80-210 f/4.5-5.6
Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 (bought off ebay for $200 with filters...lucky buy. It's in perfect shape.)

Filters:
Tiffen 52mm UV
B+W 77mm UV
B+W ultraslim skylight filter 82mm
Sigma circular polarizer 82mm

Flash:
Canon 430EX speedlight

Other:
Bogen Manfrotto 3021BPRO tripod with 804RC2 head
Bogen Manfrotto 3218 Monopod
Tamrac Adventure 2 Backpack
Kingston 1GB CF card
Sandisk Ultra II 1GB CF card

Now that I have that 24-70, I'm questioning selling the Tokina 19-35, but I can't think of anything I can afford (I really shouldn't be spending any more money) that would be more useful. The Tokina 17mm or 12-24mm (what I'd really want) are obviuosly more than the sale value of the 19-35.

The speedlight is amazing. I've never been into flash photography before, but with a friend's wedding coming up in a few months, I thought needed to start getting prepared. For the wedding, I think I'll buy a 2GB card (or two) so I can shoot at least some of the wedding in RAW. I'll also need extra batteries. I think that might be all I can justify.

Aaaaaaaaaaand, purchased. I love this thing. Check flickr.com/photos/wmmk for samples.

Uh-oh... Pentax's market share takes yet another hit. :D
Haha. Oh so true.

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 (bought off ebay for $200 with filters...lucky buy. It's in perfect shape.)

Wow, for $200, that's a great deal. :) I've got the same lens. The Sigma is the lens I use most often. :) I also have the Tokina 12-24 mm you want. It's not as useful, but nothing else is going to give you what that lens gives you, especially not for the price.

Yeah. Now I need to never buy a lens off eBay again, because lightning certainly won't strike twice... although I keep hoping!

Are you getting ready to go over to "the Dark Side?" :)

No, or at least not for a year. I'm only take a limited amount of stuff over to Korea with me for a year and have not been shooting a lot, so I decided to sell the stuff instead of leaving it in the dark for the year I'm gone. Everything I put up for sale found a happy home with members of the Cafe.

Ah, right -- that makes sense!! Whew, scared me for a minute there! I was afraid Nikon was losing another loyal shooter! :)

By the way, welcome to MacRumors! :)

The only lenses I want:

Either the Nikon 70-200 mm f/2.8 VR, or the Sigma 120-300 mm f/4 (one of the sharpest lenses around). Also, I'd like some sort of 35 mm or 28 mm f/1.8 or f/2 type lens. The 35 mm is definitely do-able and within the budget. :)

All my dreams came true when I got the 70-200 f/2.8 VR (don't forget IF and AF-S). I know people say it's not the equipment, but the photographer, and I'm here to tell you that they're only partially right. You can't take pictures of night games with anything less than 2.8! It does have quite the weight though...

see tag for my setup
(add a SB-800, a cheap tripod, an expensive tripod, and a manfrotto monopod+ball mount)

wel maybe not that poor

ok ok so maybe i'm not that poor, although i constantly have tumbleweeds in my wallet from lenses etc.

and anyways having gear to just kick around is what the world is today, i mean does anyone really need a street legal racecar aka ferrari corvette, etc?

Uh-oh... Pentax's market share takes yet another hit. :D
