hi - for me, it would just be something i could go further with my jazz interests. i have very valuable guitars, but i'm by no means a jazz player (yet
) and can't justify spending so much on a jazz guitar. at the moment i use my les paul to get a jazzy sound - something hollow and jazzier would be nice
i know many will disagree with me, but i think with digital effects and amps with different modeling, you can make your les paul sound just like any semi-hollowbody or hollowbody guitar
in the first jazz class i sat in on, both guys had hollow jazz guitars (335 and gretsch) but they also had a les paul and stratocaster, too and their playing techniques made them sound jazzy more than having a hollowbody or a solidbody
it's kind of like a little fraternity where jazz guitarists like the f-holes and there is a deep tradition with jazz and hollow guitars
but i think your les paul is suited well for the job
boss makes an electric guitar effect that can make your electric solidbody sound like an acoustic or a hollowbody electric and its very convincing and nobody will notice
a les paul, like the custom i had, can get most sounds
of course clean and distorted electric sounds are great with a les paul and are right there...you can put the selector switch in the middle and turn down the volume pots of both and get a single coil tone as a studio player once showed me (also down the midrange setting on amp, too to help this fender-like effect)
and like the acoustic pedal effect box, you can get the rest of the tones
i used to have 4 or 5 guitars around to get all the sounds but i found with two, i am ok now
