Thanks runlsd and digitalnicotine for the comments~

I think the only reason why I own an iPod Touch is simply because of iTunes and the app side of things. I noticed that the sound quality differs from iPhone and iPod touch? I also found that my iPhone 3G black sounds slightly different from my brothers white iPhone 3G :S - As in his can go a lot louder and bassier. Yes, I did check the EQ and sound settings :p hehehe

To sort of counter the loss in quality, I use a FiiO E5 amp which is good but sometimes annoying to carry around...

I thought using Zune software would be more of a hassle than I thought. But it's pretty easy using Parallels. The main Mac OS X iTunes/music folder is shared. Set Zune's default music/import folder to the shared folder. Every time you open Zune software, it updates itself.

Anyway, you probably knew all that. I don't know why I explained it. But ya, worth the investment, I think.

hey i can't seem to find these two items on mono price.
anyone know where i can get a 1/4 in male audio jack to 1/8 in female extension cable ( preferably coiled)
and a 1/4in male to 1/8in female adapter but the 1/8in female end is threaded.

nice nice! i do prefer the in-ears though :p

im looking at DACs, any recommendations?!

DAC's? dunno about those but koss are good, what exactly are ya looking for? big studio headphones or little in ear jobbys, i'd recommend the AKG K44's, great price and really good sound for the money, anything by sennheiser ;) just be careful with the CX300's loads of fakes about on ebay from china and that ;)

DAC= Digital to Audio Converter. from my understanding its basically a sound card, but made in such a way that it converts digital audio files losslessly (as opposed to most sound cards which all have some form of quality loss)

im looking for one that can work with both my ipod and nokia phone (3.5mm) (if its at all possible), and one that i could use for future home speakers (i currently have the x530's) - so it would have to be powered somewhow

any advice?

I'm using a Nuforce uDAC and I'm quite happy with with it. It's primarily a DAC but it has a headphone amp and USB to SPDIF converter built in, costs $99.

Shure SE115.

Good sound and fit for the price, plus they feel pretty heavy duty.
Was going to buy some Bose in-ear's, but managed to find these with a 1/3 off.

i get stuff sent to me for free at work all the time. the latest thing sent was a box full of Matix Domepiece headphones. They are super lightweight and comfy. Sound great too. That is what I currently am using now.

The 32Hz is in reference to the USB specification not the frequency response, anyway frequency response specs don't help at all especially when the tolerance isn't stated. It sounds good, slightly emphasised bass and treble and helps widen out the soundstage a bit.

oh. that is somewhat confusing. can you elaborate a bit more on the "USB specification" side of things? im not fully understanding..

so you wouldnt rate that DAC as very good as they dont state the tolerance levels?

i just want one that sounds good with my sennheiser IE6's and also with any possible speakers (probably higher end logitechs/bookshelf speakers) that i may consider getting.. if possible!

I don't actually know what the 32hz spec means, I just meant to say that it is not necessarily indicative of the frequency response of the uDAC. Here's the specs if you wanna have a look:

Input :
USB (USB 1.1, 2.0 compatible)=
USB DAC: USB 1.1, 2.0 compatible. USB native bit rate: 32-48kHz, 16-bit=
Maximum sampling rate: 48kHz=
Resolution: 16-bits

Output:
Analog RCA Output = 2Vrms
Dynamic Range: 110dB
THD+N= -95 dB
S/N Ratio: 98dB
Digital Output: coaxial RCA 75-ohm
Headphone output jack
Power output: 80mW x 2 @ 16-Ohm=
THD+N 0.05%=
SNR > 98dB

I wasn't really making a comment about the DAC itself, what I was trying to say is that without the knowing the tolerances of the frequency reponse measurement, the actual measurement means nothing and even if you arm yourself with all the information possible it's still not a good way to access an audio product. Manufacturers tend to try and "wow" people with a perfect 20hz-20khz response and never actually tell you what tolerance is.

I don't think you have any cause for worry with this particular product. I am very happy with mine. You can look up reviews on Amazon and Head-Fi if you want more opinions.

I think we are taking this quite far off topic.

They're the only earbuds i've found that actually fit in my ears and stay in them when i'm running.

$9.99

Can find them on sale for $7.99 usually.. and I buy a few pair. They actually last pretty long, but i'm one of those people who finds something they like and wants to stick with it for as long as humanly possible, so I buy multiples, just in case they stop making them.
