I modified my KOSS Porta Pro's with replacement earpads by Sennheiser (PX200 headphones)...they feel great, much better than that cheapo foam! I picked the pads up at B&H for $9.00

Best headphones under $100?

Hey guys,

I'm going into town tomorrow in search of some new headphones. I would like to get them tomorrow but I have no problem ordering them online if needbe. I'm just wondering what is, in your opinion, the best headphones under $100 dollars. I really like over ear cups and I'm more into the deep bass sound than the noise canceling. Its also a plus if they look awesome.

Any ideas?

Some help (and fast) would be greatly appreciated

if you like bass these aren't bad headphones they are 80.00 on amazon the earcups are kinda big but they are very comfortable if you can find them in a store and listen to them and test them to see if you like them I love mine.

I'd go with the Sennheiser HD 555, if you don't need closed back. As you can see throughout this thread, they are quite popular with members here, too. I love mine!

Is it a straight fit? I'm thinking of doing something similar. What is the comfort like?

Thanks in advance :)

Here are my 2 sets of cheap earbuds, the JVC's I've had for about a year and are my extra set,and the Sony's I just bought because they were cheap($10) and have a decent sound,I only bought them because a brand new pair of iPod earbuds I had just bought disapeared right off my iPod Touch in my bag while in Las Vegas two weeks ago, really weird. :(

Yes, its a straight fit....you have to ever so slightly stretch the leatherette over the plastic earpad (there are tiny spikes on the back to keep the OEM foam in place).

The comfort level shot up 100%! I can lay down now while wearing them, plus they make a better seal on the ear so the sound has improved as well. I would recommend this "upgrade" to all PortaPro users

Thanks for the advice. So the new earpads fit over the existing ones? or do you take the old one off? :S

i love how they appear black, but then turn a deep greenish color when looked at from a different angle.

Nice buy, what are you using to power them?

Just the MacBook for now, I'm debating getting an amp, but for now I don't see the need. They are actually very easy to power, and sound just wonderful through the MacBook, and even the iPhone once in a while. I even have them set up for my late night gaming, and now that is an awesome experience :) lol.

I bought them because I wanted something that was similar in signature as my Sennheiser IE7's, and these are very very close. I was gonna go for the SRH840s, but these apparently have more bass, which I am kinda relieved, since these are perfect for what I was looking for.

Etymotic ER6. Pretty good for the price. Above average isolation in my opinion. And yes, that is a Zune HD. Love it with pride.

For home use. Again, great for the price.

I think the Zune HD is super sexy. Is the sound output better than the iPod Touch/iPhone?

I also purchased a Zune HD, and I find the sound to be superior to that of the iPods I own, (3rd Gen Touch, 4th Gen Nano, 3rd Gen Nano). It doesn't work on a Mac unless yer running Windows, though.

I use the Shure SRH 440's, which I think are awesome. Together, they seem significantly better sounding than my iPods. YMMV. :)

Like digitalnicotine said, I ditched out on the iPod mostly based on the sound quality. I do think Zune HD sounds better.

In terms of volume, I didn't really test out either device at max or near max volume. I usually listen to music as quietly as I can w/o missing details. And when the environment is loud, the isolating earbuds do a good job.

Thanks runlsd and digitalnicotine for the comments~

I think the only reason why I own an iPod Touch is simply because of iTunes and the app side of things. I noticed that the sound quality differs from iPhone and iPod touch? I also found that my iPhone 3G black sounds slightly different from my brothers white iPhone 3G :S - As in his can go a lot louder and bassier. Yes, I did check the EQ and sound settings :p hehehe

To sort of counter the loss in quality, I use a FiiO E5 amp which is good but sometimes annoying to carry around...

Sony headsets. Comfy, cheap and good sound quality. A nice step up from the $20 Logitech headsets I was using previous (two broke in less than 3 years )
