I really want that little amp but I cannot justify $200 on something I probably don't quite understand. Not to mention, I rarely have to put headphones on when I am working.
It makes a big difference when you have higher end headphones. Basically RCA wires going into amp it amplifies the sound for the headphones and you plug your headphones in. But you really need a good pair of headphones and a DAC to make use of this as well.

I have not tried tube rolling. I know Headfi has a huge thread on it and I plan on doing it at some point. I am pretty happy with the sound already.

I have the Senn HD580s with the upgraded cable and the covers. I don't think it makes a big change to the sound, but I did not like the plastic look of the original covers.

My favorite headphones are the 701s. The electrostats don't get a lot of use these days because the cushioning inside is worn down. I don't think they sound as good as the 701s (sound stage is smaller and less bass).

A couple extra pics from my other setups:

This setup is now next to my fav spot on the couch:
Thanks for posting back. Interesting I always wanted to listen too some electrostats never had the pleasure. I see you have some AD700s as well. I really like those headphones too and you can't beet them for the price. Hope you have fun with your setup.

and for those who are wondering headphone amps basically amplify the sound so that headphones can use it. But all headphone amps have distortion especially the ones built into your computers and ipods. By buying a dedicated high end amp you can eliminate a lot of the distortion and get a much cleaner sound as well as many of these can put out much more power required for some headphones. So basically they reproduce sound with much lower distortion.

Just ordered a few of the Plattan's from UrbanEars out of Sweden. These are for me, and one for a friend who chose sallad.

Since I've never actually listened to them, I'm hoping they sound decent, but if not, there is a 14 day from receipt return policy. :D

I have the Shure 440's, and they are awesome, but don't need an amp with iPod. My Shure lower end in-ear headphones also don't require an amp. If your headset says, "Studio", or "Professional", chances are you'll need an amp. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the quick writeup. I've always kind of thought I knew why you'd want an amp, but this gives more of a layman explanation. I have Sennheiser HD448s that I find to sound real good. Then again, I am not close to an audiophile, I just want to hear the highs and lows of the music and I bought them to record music. There is one song I love where the girl is humming and if you have good speakers or are wearing decent enough headphones you can hear that she actually starts to meow. She did it more as a joke in studio, but it turned out that some picked up on it, which made her laugh. I listen to that song when I want to see if a pair of headphones are going to give me enough highs, lows and mids for what I think my tastes are.

Peapody has sent me some AKG 27is. I am very eager to get those and see how they compare. :D

gatepc thanks for the input. I really don't think I have the headphones to warrant such technology. I fear I'd only be wasting my cash or my baby daddy's cash because welfare cut me off. :D

Uofmtiger I am utterly impressed to see another Big Star fan. :D :D

Denon sent me these to try out, so far they are not bad :) D510R

HEADPHONES!

Very nice! I've never heard them, but the cups look comfortable...occasionally the plasticky "leather" gets hot and sticks to my ears, but they look thicker and more cushy than most. Will there be a review on your site soon before they go back?

They don't go back w00t :D And yes of course we will have a review up very soon. They are very affordable and Denon makes good quality products. I found the ear cushions not to be very soft compared to their high end offerings. And the are all pleather.

Free stuff, fantastic! Denon is generally pretty solid, although it wouldn't surprise me if their forte is their HT amplifiers, as opposed to their mid- to high-end consumer cans. Looking forward to your review.

Ah the single blogger talking as a group. ;)
When you get freebies do the companies care that you sell their products off for profit? I always wondered how that worked.

Shure se210+m.
Got them to replace my Etymotic hf2 after they broke for the second time.
I had a pair of e2c's before and missed them so I decided on these.

I bought a pair of Monster Turbine during Future Shop Boxing Day, 79$ instead of 179$. A great improvement compared to Apple standard earbuds...

New set up - the shures I had already, but I wanted to get a little player to go with it and my new pelican case. WHAT A WONDERFUL COMBO. The clip+ has a warm sound signature, the shures analytical and crisp...perfect mesh of two worlds.

Not at all, I'm free to do as I please thank you for your concern.

I hope to join in on the group as soon as I get some writing together!

You are in :)

Is Schneider looking for writers? Schneider, are you looking for writers? I'll gladly help out :)

Well yes since I laid off a few for low quality that I should have eliminated from the start. You can quickly apply here :) Thank you for your interest.
I get a lot of requests that I cannot approve though.

Ok, I went with the 300 bucks Dr Dre Beats, and boy, what a disappointment. First, over priced much. Yeah, cool design, but the sound, not worth 300 bucks. There are 100 bucks headphones that sound the same or even better. And the sound leakage is just ridiculous. My volume bar is only half way up, and when I take these headphones off, it seems like I'm listening to music through 2 loud speakers. Everyone else around me can hear loud and clear what I;m listening to.

I';m going to return these, and just get a new set of the in-ear Klipsch headphones, which has been the best headphones I've ever owned.

...They sound... 'okay'. I use them as my 'around town' headphones and they do a decent job serving that purpose. To be honest, I bought them for the look (so pretty no?)

If you're not an audiophile and plan on using these in public, these should work splendidly (though a bit uncomfortable the first couple wears).

I'd rate them around 3 stars - for 'acceptable' sound (better than ipod buds), and sweet aesthetic.
