I think another reason a lot of people choose the birch is because it is a veneer, and I believe the oak is just an "Oak-affect" meaning it is paper and not a real wood veneer.

No, that's not accurate. The Birch color is paper, just like the rest of them. They don't make only the Birch out of real wood, so it is fake covering, as well. Plus, you can tell by looking at it.

I think it depends on the product. The Malm bed frame for instance lists all of the finishes except white as being veneer. However many other items do not use veneer, so it is on a case by case basis.

I'm not going to post a picture of it in my room, because my room is a mess.

A new desk chair from IKEA. It's the KLÄPPE model. It is so comfortable. After a week of sitting on a cardboard box a plastic chair from Walmart would probably be comfortable though. This is my first IKEA purchase, so we'll see how it works.

As a Swede i can't help but wonder how people who do not speak Swedish pronounce the names of IKEA products or how weird they sound. Frankly some names are really odd even for Swedes. Guess IKEA ran out of normal names a long time ago.

I've been wondering about the same thing. I think it would be hilarious, to be honest.

I definately lean more towards traditional furniture, but some of your setups have me rethinking my choices. I'm especially liking the ambient lighting.

Well done! :D

Yes, I lean toward the traditional as well, which is why I recently got a traditional apartment vs. a loft style apartment. I just couldn't picture traditional furniture in a loft with concrete floors and pendant lighting. But I do like the look of some of it.

I really love the danish modern style, I like to think that furniture should just look like what it is used for. A desk should just be a surface with legs, a shelf should just have space to set your things. So IKEA is the perfect store for me.
Some "traditional" setups do look nice if they aren't cluttered.

You may have a point there, but I'm just not there yet (and perhaps never will be - I'm 56 after all).

Bought loads of IKEA stuff today. The GALANT-desk is seriously awesome. I can't wait to start expanding it.

The Galant desk is REALLY starting to grow on me. Too bad I just spent $140 bucks on a desk from Target 2 months ago AND have no IKEA within 10 hours of where I live. haha. :(

My black-brown mikael desk arrived today.

It gets scratched so darn easily!
