I don't want my weather app to only update every 6 hours! I'm already frustrated by the new widgets that often take 15-60 minutes :)

I was thinking about a "take your umbrella when you leave" thing, not a very precise forecast (you have the big widget or the app for that)

I live somewhere with often big changes of temp day to night. So my icon will say 32° (as it was at, say, 4pm) but it's actually 15° because it's now 9pm. So I can understand why they didn't bother. People like me would complain!

I'm gonna suppose you live in London. I live in Northwestern Spain where it also rains like 140 days per year, so the "gonna rain" indicator would be great since you have to think about it so often when you leave home. TV news used to forecast once every 6-12-24 hours if you think about it.

What would be the harm? It seems easy enough even though I get the point that it wouldn't be useful for everyone.

I realised most apps that aren’t on the home screen I just tend to search for by name anyway. So I removed most things from the second screen - but I do have some personally set up category folders (travel, car, camera etc) and the app library isn’t great at combining them well enough to rely on that yet. And honestly I’m not sure the value of the app library anyway - if you don’t use the apps on a second/third screen very often, just don’t swipe over. Search can be done by swiping down anywhere anyway.

I do still keep folders in my dock and homescreen - anything I want to notice a notification that I don’t have ‘pop up’ - so eg any messaging apps I have in a social folder.

Can’t wait for the carrot weather widget - current one is slow to update and doesn’t give me much info. But that’ll be fixed soon enough hopefully.

can you have eg two different calendar widgets with different calendars shown (work/home)?

edit: Seems so - you can turn off app mirroring and select which calendars to sync. Might even be able to use that to have the big 4x4 + the month view on the same screen which could be helpful

Can we already use the new homescreen widgets from third parties in the current iOS14 beta or will these become available just before the official release of iOS14 somewhere in September? If so is there somewhere already a list of apps that already support it? I also wonder if we can use existing 'old' widgets from third parties on the home screens as well or only on the old location.
Normally Developers cant release apps taking advantage of new features until the official release in September

Very much loving the new widgets, and being able to hide apps in App Library is honestly huge. My home screen(s) will almost definitely change a whole lot between now and GM but think I’ve settled on this.

How does the battery widget look like if you only have the phone, airpods case and airpods?

Even though I use ios13 I'm preparing my home screen for the widgets. Can you believe that🤣

off topic, but so many people using the outlook app blows my mind. It takes like 2 seconds to open every other time on an iphone 11 pro, how can you possibly use that??
I have an 11 pro max and it opens quickly, less than 2 seconds.

First of all, the categories in the App Library are set by the app developer when they submit it to the App Store. I suppose they could change that selection with a new App Store submission - but it's not within Apple's purview to make that call. So, for that reason, the App Library categories are fixed, and will not change (or categories merged) without Apple redesigning the App Library.

Secondly, there is no requirement that one even consider the App Library at all. It just sits there after the last home screen page of your own design - use it if you want, ignore it if you choose.

Finally, carry on as before with your own personal choice regarding the home screen - app icons for some, folders (of your choosing/design/combining) as you see fit.

Easy-peasy.

Put the PB on a backup 8. Runs quite well. I did a wipe after the upgrade just to see how it preforms fresh. So far the music widget seems broken and the app library is a weak app launcher in my opinion. Will be a interesting ride this summer.

I am curious to know if anyone has discovered the voodoo behind the photo widget's selection of photo(s)... does not appear to be any rhyme or reason from where I sit.

Here are my screens currently. Screen 1 top widget is a stack containing: Weather, Notes, Featured Photo, Next Calendar, Fitness, then stand alone Battery widget and photos (may stack eventually), Screen 2 contains a large calendar widget and Siri suggestions widget, Screen 3 & 4 apps, Screen 5 the App Library.
Triple tap has been set up for screen capture.

Sorry if it's been covered, but how do you get the Photos widget to show Featured Photo?

Or 1x1 even.

What widgets would you like to see 1x1? What do you envision?

I have no idea what you're saying. I use Outlook for my work email. What am I missing from your post?

Yeah, you would think the poster would've said that in his post instead of making it look like this was actually his home screen.

It’s funny how people think this is a concept. It’s not and it’s pretty easy to recreate if you know how to use an image editor.

The round image with his profile picture is not a widget, it’s part of the wallpaper. As the top left widget is small and the second is medium you get a free 4x4 sector on the top right, so whatever you have on your wallpaper (in this case a picture of himself), it’s shown clearly. So just add a circle with a picture of yourself on your wallpaper and you’re done.

The lock screen is just a screenshot of the home screen that is blurred and set as wallpaper for the lock screen. Piece of cake :)

Something I just noticed that when you have the home screen zoomed and large text size then the weather widget looks like crap because most of it gets cut off.
