I’m already thinking about how I’ll rearrange my home screens, and it tempts me to install the public beta... At the same time, third-party widgets won’t come out until iOS14 is out of beta (I’m assuming), and that will undoubtedly shape how I decide to reorganize my icons...

What got me to get install the beta was the new call screen. While having the stackable widget on the Home Screen is nice, it isn’t something I use all the time, because I use my Apple Watch and iPad Pro more.

I agree that the Apple app widgets are pretty basic... and IMO are there to demo the concept and get the masses excited about widgets. I do expect some really good stuff from the third party developers. Your assumption is correct about having to wait for iOS 14 release for third party widgets to start showing up... getting closer every day.

Yeah, but it's still fun to play with until it's out of beta!

What got me to get install the beta was the new call screen. While having the stable widget on the Home Screen is nice, it isn’t something I use all the time, because I use my Apple Watch and iPad Pro more.
I'm not sure what you're saying. You won't have the phone app on your home screen? How has the new call screen changed your setup?

Am I imagining it, or is there a much larger gap between the dock icons and the bottom row of regular icons and/or widgets than there was before?

First thing I noticed as well, wasted space up top as well, could easily fit another row of icons if it wasn't for that wasted space.

Man Utd, booooo.

I wonder if Flash Scores will ever use real GD in their tables instead of just GF/GA and leave me working it out? If they did I would ditch the Sky Sports Score Centre app which is slow to update.
It will be interesting if they offer widgets with scores/info displayed on your chosen team.

sooo. The batteries widget has spaces for 4 things. What other batteries are showing up there? AirPods? Ipads? Or are they just blank. Just wondering

Disregard. My AirPods are now showing up there for the first time since being on the Beta

Only battery powered devices connected to your phone via bluetooth will show there - phone, watch, AirPods/AirPods charging case, or other bluetooth headset... the iPad does not connect to the phone, so it will not appear there.
