...think I've settled for this:

:)

So far the 2 that seem worthy of my Home Screen are the weather and maps widgets.

I think the weather widget is really fantastic and like the rain forecast they took out of Dark Sky.

The 1 touch directions from maps out of the maps widget is really great too.

But the rest can continue to live on the dedicated widgets screen.

I tried out Siri suggestions widget also but decided against it because having apps constantly move around on the home screen messes with the muscle memory I develop over time.

Agreed 100%. I also like the music one because I like to dive back into recent albums.

I just realized that you can't place another widget in this large space at the bottom:

I wanted to fill that space with a medium sized News widget but you can't as it then shifts the last row of apps (Safe, Team Stuff, Expenses and COVID) to the next page..??!

What's the point of having all that empty space....?!!!!

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Don't know the answer, but it shows on mine, too:

...that's odd then?!

My AirPods 2 case is currently on the charger and I'm actively using my AirPods right now. Only the AirPods are showing in my battery widget and not the case....?!!

My case only shows when I place the AirPods in the case and then I open the lid of the case next to the phone - then it will show both devices in the widget. But, as soon as I close the lid, the case then disappears from the widget again.

Wonder if this is a random iOS 14 bug....?!

I keep changing my mind, especially regarding stacks. However, here's mine at the moment. In an attempt to replicate the missing Favourites widget I've created 2x2 widgets on my Today View screen. Originally, I had video, audio & text stacked, but while playing I kept calling people by accident! So I removed the stacks and instead added a menu to the shortcut. That's what the last screenshot shows (after I click "Parents").

Names removed to protect the slightly-innocent.

I miss the old-school Phone Favorites Widget, too. I added one of the medium-sized Shortcuts Widgets to add 4 favorite contacts, which takes up less space than the 4 small ones you've added but doesn't have the ability to add a menu that I'm aware of. How did you add the menu to the small Widget? Does it popup with a long press?

Does your AirPods case actually show all the time though? On a different thread on these forums, it’s been suggested that it’s normal behaviour for the case to NOT actually show all the time and ONLY for it to show when it’s near the phone and you open the lid?
That's pretty much always been the case form what I recall.

The menu is part of the shortcuts I create, so that would work perfectly fine with your method too.

I did try it that way but I actually like the 2x2 widgets on the today screen. They're each part of a stack, so there are other widgets "hidden" behind my contacts ones.

I do wish widgets didn’t have the name of the app grafted onto them. e.g, a photo widget displayed with ‘Acme Photo Widgets’ written underneath or a calendar widget reminding you that it is part of the ‘Fantastic Calendar’ app kind of detracts from the aesthetic value of the widget screen.

At the very least Apple ought to give its long suffering users the option of turning off widget labels. Hell, even letting app developers offer this feature as part of a paid pro upgrade or a small one time fee would be preferable to having no option at all.

Just updated to 14 and this is something that really stuck out to me. Annoying to see the Widget names.
