@IkerTB @coleblk some great shots guys! More evidence on how good the 16e camer can perform 👌🏻

I had a 15 Pro but the reason I got the 16e was because I killed the 15 Pro! At first I used it as a chance to try a Pixel 7 Pro and android - I didn’t like it and reverted to an old iPhone 8 for a few months before getting the 16e.

The 16e exceeded my expectations in the camera performance, battery life and how much I love the device. Overall smoothness and performance is far better than the Pixel 7 Pro, and way and above the iPhone 8 I’d got used to!

Can’t comment on AirPods use but the 16e has Standby mode.

Another stunning morning out and about with my 16e. Bitterly cold start 🌅🥶

Perhaps nobody will share my opinion but I find that the photo processing makes many photos (the field ones above as examples) look more like paintings than photographs. I find the photos taken with my SE 1, 2 and 3 look more realistic.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion! 😄

I know what you mean about the latest software and image processing on new smartphones. It can go too far.

I personally love the look of the photos, very artistic style and with little to no editing needed for most photos ready for my iPhone photography instagram page.

Each to their own 👍🏻😊

That's exactly what it is. The rounded edges on the regular 16 make it feel slightly smaller in hand than the 16e.

The opposite, the 16 looked larger near the 16e (not by holding them).

iPhone 16 is slightly larger than the 16e.

  • 16: 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.8 mm
  • 16e: 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.8 mm

Their difference is 0.9mm higher and 0.1mm wider which is nothing, but still on the display the 16e looks smaller.

That could be due to the 16e using the 14's screen, and therefore the 14's larger bezels - maybe? 🤷‍♂️

It definitely can. They're using some pretty hardcore processing to make the 16e's photos look as close to the 16's and 16 Pro's as possible, so if you're pixel-peeping I believe you can see that evidence even more. I personally don't notice that unless I start zooming in, and even then there are times where I think the 16e's processing does help the situation. I can't speak to the SE1 and 2 since it's been awhile, but I had an SE3 up until recently, and it definitely didn't over-process anything. So if you're used to that, I can see how the 16e would feel that way.

Questions for all iPhone 16e owners:

1)
Right now on my iPhone 16 I can always see the battery on my AirPods 4, even when the case is closed and I'm not using my AirPods. Is that feature tied to the UWB chip? Or is it the chip in my AirPods that provides the feature regardless of which iPhone I'm using?

2) Second question. I use Standby mode on my bedside table. Right now I can activate the screen by tapping the table lightly. Is that still possible on the iPhone 16e?

These are two features I'd rather not lose, so it's important to get that clarified before I jump into a 16e 😅

#1 - When I add the battery widget on my 16e, it shows my AirPods Case and AirPods battery status on the widget even though my AirPods have been closed and in my bag since last night. And when I pull them out and open them, the widget does match what they're currently showing. So maybe that works and has nothing to do with the UWB chip? I have the Pro's - don't know if that will make a difference or not either.

#2 - This doesn't sound like a normal feature, other than maybe the phone is feeling some subtle movement and therefore the screen is waking up? And if that's the case, I guess it depends on how sensitive the 16e's motion sensors are relative to the 16.

1) Perfect. It seems to work on the 16e as well despite the missing UWB chip. It's the same function on both AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 ANC. I own both headsets, and it works the same. Great.

2) No, it IS actually a feature. Standby can be activated by a gentle push, or a gentle tap on the table. It actually works quite well - I've used that function on both my 13 Mini, 15 Pro and my current 16. This feature does not work on the iPhone SE 2, I have an old one lying around that I have tested it on, and therefore it could also be the case with 16e, now that it does not have MagSafe.

You can try it yourself.. and feel free to report back :)
Put your iPhone in Standby, wait for the screen to turn off and tap once or twice on the table your iPhone is placed on.

Apple also refers to this function in their support document:

I never knew about that feature, pretty cool.

And yes, it's working on the 16e. I have it on a stand about 6 inches behind my desk keyboard, and even just tapping on my keyboard causes the screen to wake up while it's in StandBy mode.

Thanks for testing it out. That sounds really good. I would also be surprised if that feature was removed from the 16e, but you never know with Apple. Well, I guess I'll have to order a 16e now :)

The actual screen is 1.4 mm larger in diagonal on the 16 than on the 16e, which may make the whole phone appear larger, at least when the screen is on.
