I really hope you guys with days of usage are only doing that for testing purposes or out of necessity, because no matter what you should always fully charge your phone daily

went from 100% to 2%

usage 5 hours 16 minutes
standby 12 hours 20 minutes
Push on
mail fetch 15 minutes
3g on
wifi on
bluetooth on

This was mine today. 3GS 16gb. I'm still running 3.0.1

Brightness @ 50%
3g on
Wifi off
Push off
mail manually

I listen to music for like 4 hours, Like 30 min of youtube vids, a couple apps, a few calls, the rest was just safari.

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS (running 3.1)

Went from 100% to 21% and last calibrated my battery last night.

50% Brightness
Auto Brightness On
3G on
WiFi off
Bluetooth off
Location Services off
2 Mail accounts, fetching every hour
Push notifications on for Yahoo Messenger

And my battery life is,

5 hours 20 minutes Usage
22 hours 0 minutes Standby

I'm very impressed with my battery life. I use my phone for calls, texts, web browsing, and listening to iPod a lot. However, I don't use the GPS in maps or compass a lot. Don't see much need to use it except if I leave town.

3GS 16bg
3G - On
Bluetooth - Off
Push - Off
Fetch - Manual
Location - Off
Wifi - On at house
Brightness - Auto and set at 40%

I talked about 1 hour, did some games, some internet browsing on 3G and Wifi, made a short movie and emailed it over 3G....which took a while.

My battery time okay or does it suck? I have calibrated it and have only had the phone a week but only charged it 3 times so far. I am going to start charging every night.

How much battery is used when the phone is off? When I went to bed last night at 4 am it was at 56. I woke up and checked this morning it was at 54% With wifi on it seems to drain a little faster, up on wake up it has gone from 100 to 96.

I have no idea why today would be different then any other day. Normally I can get thru a day if I watch my usage. Today I have barely used the phone and was shocked to hit 20% after only 5 hours.

I had major issues with the 3.1 update, managed to mostly resolve them, and remain stable for about a week. Today the phone decides to start locking up again. I give up trying to figure this out.

I do have most options turned on. I didn't buy this thing not to use it.

I think Apple should be shot that the only way to make it thru the day even without the 3.1 issues, is to turn off services or not use the device. If I had known that I would have to revolve my life around charge times to use the Iphone I would have thought long and hard about it. It's the main reason Rogers is laughing all the way to the bank. I have 6gb a month I can use but the only way to even get over a single GB a month I would have to recharge the iphone 3x a day. To use the entire 6gb a month I honesty think I would have to leave it plugged in all the time. Its frustrating.

I don't know what u guys think about this but.

I have on my 3GS running 3.1

3G ON (Full signal whenever I go)
WIFI ON (so it uses it automatically when I'm in range)
PUSH MobileME all on
Push Notifications on
Location Services On
Brightness Default, Auto ON
Bluetooth OFF

With constant usage of the phone it uses up to 20%/hr. This means a combined total of 5hrs.

I find this pretty weak.

Here's my 6 day old 16GB 3GS w/ 3.1 OS.

3G ON (Full signal whenever I go)
WIFI ON (so it uses it automatically when I'm in range)
PUSH MobileME all ON
Push Notifications ON
Location Services ON
Brightness Default, Auto ON
Bluetooth OFF

After being on the phone for 5 minutes, my battery dropped 4%. Standby is pretty bad as well, I lose about 1% ever 20 minutes. I'm coming over from the Blackberry Tour (which has a monstrous battery life in comparison) so I'm quite spoiled. Regardless, it seems that a battery that only lasts < 1.5 days on standby is a bit weak. If this is the norm, please let me know.

Also, I realize some people suggest turning off push, location services, 3G, etc, but doesn't that greatly diminish the phones usefulness? When I'm out of the office, I'm constantly using the location services and push notifications. For me, it would reduce the phone's usefulness by about 50% if I don't have those features enabled.

That said, it appears the batter life of non 3.0 phones are supposed to be bettter. Is this an OS issue, or should I invest in a car and on-the-go charger?

Thanks!

Edit: it dropped from 84% to 80% just writing the above reply... So I don't know... I also wanted to add that I'm on Edge with 3g off, wifi off, mail set to manual... and there is some warmth but that could be from holding the phone.

iPhone 3gs 32gig/black
As of right now I have:
84% battery left
1 hour 20 min <usage
14 hours 32 min <standby

all that is with about 40 min of phone use, about 3 or 4 songs on the iPod, and just some random playing around (checking battery %, etc) and now under 10min of safari.
------------———--------—-
typically I can get 12hrs to almost 3 days of standby, and 4 to almost 8 hours of usage... the phone is not jailbroken and was bought brand new about 2 months ago...

My phone would get a tad warm here and there, but since removing my ifrogz case it hasn't gotten warm at all... I do notice that the wall adapter gets warm while charging, but I'd assume that to be normal, anyone else's wall adapter get warm/hot while charging?

i've really been wondering if my battery life is normal, and wether or not I should seek a new phone, I've been talking to apple care and of course they say I should be getting better bat life, but looking over these and other forums, my bat life seems average if not above... it does fluxuate though... Plus seeing people who claim to get usage in the teens and all with a standby time of over 3 or 4 days (some have posted numbers even higher than that!) I'm left not knowing what to think...

What do you guys think?

Apologies for the spiel and I appreciate the feedback.

Thanks.

iPhone 3GS 32GB - at around 50% indicated battery left, the phone turns off showing it is dead and needs charging. After 30 minutes of charging - I have 24%. This 3.1 SUCKS!!!

I have a Nokia E71 and Nokia's battery life is phenomenal. I'm a pretty heavy user(Texting, multiple calls during the day and up to 3-4 hours on the internet) I have to charge my phone every other day.

I don't find 5 hours of constant usage very weak. If you can spend 5 hours a day on your phone then most likely your not a very busy person and you can find time to charge. Most laptops get less then 5 hours of charge and those have massive batterys. If your traveling a lot and using your phone out of boredom, pick up an external battery pack. I bought an iMaxPower and it charges my phone 4+ times.

But does it make sense for the battery to drop 1% every minute I'm on the phone? I could be on my Tour for 2 cumulative hours with the battery going down only 20%. I'm not saying I want the Tour back, but 1hr 40 min talk time is a bit shy of par, no?

Is that the catch then? I took made a call to my wife just now, only 2 minutes and somehow my batter dropped from 99% to 96%. I did notice that it was over 3G though...

That may be the catch, I believe apple's claim on talktimes are 10 hours over edge and 5 over 3g, so though apples claims are usually off since their tests are typically non applicable when it comes to real world use, they seem to be close if not on when it comes to talktime.

My battery has went down the you know what since 3.1

Last night laying in bed I was streaming radio w/ the screen on to watch battery %

3G ON
WIFI OFF
PUSH MobileME all off
Push Notifications off
Location Services On
Brightness - Almost lowest it could go since it was pitch black
Bluetooth OFF

I timed it and my battery was going down 1% every 45 seconds. If my math is correct this means I could stream 3G radio for only 75 minutes. Prior to 3.1 I could stream 3-4 hours and still have 25% or more battery left.

I guess there's nothing I can do except wallow in my disappointment.

:(

I'm actually quite a busy person and besides receiving calls the only time I get to play on the phone is in the evenings before bed. While 5hrs might seem decent, my 3G has better usage times with identical settings. With 3.0 the 3G ended up dying first.

And going by some of the screenshots here of people who have simliar settings to me my battery life is on the lower end of the scale. I'm talking about those with 2 days + standby and 7hrs+ of usage.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with how the actual percentage is reported and not actual diminished battery life. I tested it out today. I streamed wunderradio on 3G today for 45 minutes and was down to 40%. I turned off the phone and turned it back on. My meter now says 82%.

It seems like it's going down fast again. If I reboot again it will probably go back up. This is definitely a problem.

hmmm

Anyone else try this?

I do agree there is a battery drain (memory leak?) bug in v3.10

My 1yr 2mo old 8GB 3GS w/ 3.1 OS.

3G ON
WIFI ON
PUSH MobileME all OFF (no need)
Push Notifications OFF (again don't need it)
Location Services OFF
Brightness Default, Manual (about 30%)
Bluetooth ON (in-car use)

I usually got 6-7hrs of usage & aprox 2days 3hrs of standby before v3.x. Now I get 1day 10hrs (barely) standby for less usage 6hrs. And that's not the problem yet. Another thing, the battery indicator isn't displaying properly. I have rebooted the phone sometimes, only to find the battery icon refreshed and now at 20%.

When you say you get 6-7 hours usage and 2 days standby is that until the battery runs flat completely?

I'm finding that on 3.0 and 3.1 my battery life is relatively the same. Poor. I generally try to not use my phone at all in the case it'll die on me later.

What am I to expect from the 3gs with let's say 6 hours of usage? How long should it be expected to standby? I know it's quite broad but i think everyones usage is round about the same. A little iPod, browsing and generally 20 mins of talk?

In my experience have never seen 2 days standby even with little usage.

I want to get it replaced, but the genius I saw had even worse off battery life on his 3gs? Lol fml
