When you say you get 6-7 hours usage and 2 days standby is that until the battery runs flat completely?

No it would get to 20% battery at that usage I posted.

This is what it used to look like (albeit a tad old):

6c11c1ef.jpg

This is fairly typical

I used to get longer - maybe charge every two days - but I use the phone for data a lot more now and I hear 3.1 does bad things to your battery...

3GS 16Gb 3.1
Brightness Auto 25%
3G 2 Hours
WiFi Off
Bluetooth Off
Location Services On
Notifications On (multiple apps)
Push On (multiple accounts)
Fetch 15 Minutes (multiple accounts)
iPod 2 Hours
Calls 45 Minutes
Frequent use of apps for navigation, route planning, social networking

I am quite happy with having to charge every day, though on very long days I come close to it shutting itself down.

Off topic but:

Reading through these threads always makes me realize I talk on my phone alot more then most people. I am at 2 days 8 hours. I have had my phone since the end of july. And I didn't even talk on it for the first two weeks of august as I was gone....

last night I was on EDGE, and I bought 3 apps and downloaded 2 albums from iTunes, in fact one album only partially downloaded, I decided to pause 4 of the songs cos it was taking forever... now today I tried redownloading them over Wi-fi and later EDGE again and now it says there's an error dling the songs, so when I tap to retry it still says download error. WTF.

But while dling apps and songs over EDGE my battery percentage went to 18%, with my usage time at 4 hrs 17 min and standby at 7 hrs... This is ridiculous to me considering I normally get in and around 6-7 hrs of usage and 1.30 to 2.30 days of standby... but I guess doing anything over EDGE (downloading anything!) will take a lot more juice rather than Wi-fi or 3g. After pausing those downloads I went to sleep and when I woke up my phone was at 11%, so a 7% drop while I slept, which is also weird, usually my phone drops like 1% or 2% while I sleep, 7 to 10 hrs..

I'm running fw 3.0.1.

Even now my battery is at 89%
usage: 1 hr 3 min
standby: 1 hr 22 min

wifi, 3g, notifications, bt, everything is off... Though I do have location turned on... And as I've stated there are 4 song not dling in iTunes on the phone... All I've done so far is try making those songs finish, and i've been on safari for about 15-20 min... And I was on wifi for 10-15 min, but I'm back on edge again now...

In my opinion that usage doesn't merit a 19% drop...

I have a brand new 3gs being shipped to
me, so I'm going to do some comparing.

I meant 11% drop not 19... Buts down 3 more now anyway, heh.... Ugh

My 3G iphone battery life specs.

I just got my first iphone about a mo. ago. I loved it except for the noticably poor battery life. The most life I ever got was 1 Day & 14 hrs. of Standy time. My typical use of the device per full charge is a couple of hrs. of phone calls/approx. 10 text messages, a couple of hrs. of browsing the internet WITH 3G OFF, I only use 3g to download apps. B.T.W., this is with the bare minimum power consumption settings such as: WiFi off, BT off, no push/pull e-mail set, brightness adjusted to approx 40%, etc. So, I took it back to the Apple store a few weeks after the purchase to get it tested and see if anything in the software or hardware showed problems. According to the rep. it passed every test.
Well, after explaining to the "Genius Bar Rep" my issues, he assures me that this phone is designed to be charged daily and with any smartphone I shouldn't expect to get more than 1 day of standy/useage before requiring a charge. Nevertheless, I demanded a new phone as a replacement. Let me tell you, BOY I'M GLAD I DID! Check out the specs. of my exact replacement, which I sync'd from my home pc with the exact settings of my original iphone:

The moral of this post. Just because a "Genius Rep" assures you that the battery life shouldn't last more than a day of normal use, doesn't mean he/she is correct.

P.S. To Apple: Kudos to you for making a feature packed extremely innovative device!!! :D

SHAME ON YOU for misleading your customers by posting obviously overrated specs!!!

One more thing, when I pointed the specs. out to the Apple rep. he said this, "yes, it might get 300 hrs. of standby time with the display never coming on, no phone calls made/received, and no internet useage".
I should've told him, "that's like me telling you this car will last virtually forever, IF you never drive it, or put gas in it, or touch it, etc.

W.T.F. Apple?????!!!!!

Nice Times, yes, Apple is confused about what the iPhone can achieve. There is no way on God's earth it can achieve 300 hours of Standby, probably with nothing on and nothing coming I.E Airplane mode.

Even the 30hours of Ipod claim I refute, with 3G on - Wifi/BT/Push Off Brightness at 55% I get 23Hours of iPod time and 1 day 7 hours standby.

What is that App you use at the bottom? It looks nifty, I want to see what I can push my baby to;)

I think something is wrong. :(

Granted, I am jailbroken and have more stuff going on that I need but still. Its not that much.

5 hours isn't too bad, although it probably wouldn't have lasted that long if all of those 5 hours had been spent using data or playing a game. Almost 2 hours of the usage was watching a movie.

Oh, and just for giggles.. what is wrong with this picture?

IMG_0036.PNG IMG_0040.PNG

The one at 51 was after a couple calls some safari on 3g some on wifi, with push notifications and push email on.

The one at 26 was after turning 3g and all push off. They were the same charge cycle after taking the 51 percent snapshot i turned those things off for the rest of the day. I couldn't run it any longer as I needed to leave first thing in the morning no time to charge if I didn't charge overnight.

Anyone ever seen this before?

So I randomly decided to check my usage and this is what I saw:
4002708960_9db91c2b5d.jpg

Anyone ever gotten that before? I would expect to see that maybe while it's charging, but it hasn't been on the charger all day.

Mine did that after a recent "install as new". Was fine after the first 100% charge.

My phone shows that (and always has, 1st iPhone, 3G, and now 3GS) even if it has been charged all night long and it shows 100%. If I then unplug the charger, plug it back in, then unplug it, the full charge gets recognized.

Strange, but it has always been like that for me. Does drive me crazy, though.

iPhone 3GS. approximately 3 months old. It's been doing really great up until the 3.1.2. After the update, i just noticed my battery life got shot! It's crap now. It doesn't matter that I have 3G off, bluetooth off, and WIFI off when not in use, the sucker drains like nobody's business!
It's crazy how it just happened from one day to another... Guess I'll have to wait around for another update and hope that fixes it.

If you're not jailbroken or unlocked, consider doing a DFU restore. It may help. Alternatively, try letting the battery drain completely before charging, but try not to do this very often. Maybe two or three times a month depending on how often you recharge.

3.1.2 - shocking battery impact

My battery used to be fine, all the way through the SW updates, until 3.1.2 a few days ago.. now it just drops like a stone. Im not using it particularly heavily either, bluetooth is off, wireless and 3G on, but it easily used to do me a whole day. I would always be about 25 - 30% by night time.
Now this is the result after 3.1.2 install, just over 2 hours since last full charge and 37% remaining!! and only 30 mins of usage.

This is consistent with my current experience except WiFi On and Bluetooth On.

3.1.2 sucks....battery.

Hi, up until now my battery have been ok ( first on a 3G and now on a 3GS), charging it every night, not impressive, But I've gotten used to that..
But after 3.1.2 it just drains very fast with exactly the same settings. use etc
so something have happened. Just by typing this it vent down 5% so something is wrong after 3.1.2.. This sucks...

Pfft, everyone and their new iphones =(

iPhone 2G
3.01

Battery: ~10%
Usage: 3 hours 30 minutes
Standby: 16 hours, 51 minutes

NO SIM CARD INSERTED

3 Hours on Games (Wifi ON)
30 Minutes on surfing app store/updating/etc (Wifi ON)

So about 13 hours of standby with nothing on.

No network searching, no texting, no calling.

Seems normal?

I already posted similar results onto another thread. Anyways my phone is back to were it should be on new 3.1.2 update.

....and then I hit the 20% warning.

Rock on! :apple:

I rarely follow cellphone technology after my June 2007 but...

BlackBerry Storm™ 9500

Standby time: 15 days (356 hours)
Talk Time: 6 hours
Battery: 1400 mAhr removable/rechargeable cryptographic Lithium cell

What the hell is Apple doing?!
