Just ordered my macbook pro now :D
Going to be my first mac

/MBP ORDER

wow us Canadians are getting jipped big time. Its cheaper to buy in the states without student discount than with Canadian student discount. I might advise my cousin to pick one up in the states rather than here.

Anyways congrats! Finally treated yourself to a bday present? Me too haha except I went for the MB w/ 4GB ram + CS4 design premium as mentioned before.

Same estimated ship date so let's see who gets it first lol.

Oh and to update, my order status says:
MINI DISPLAYPORT TO DVI ADAPTER-INT
MB570Z/A
$0.00
Ships: 3 - 5 business days
Delivers: 22 Oct - 28 Oct

This randomly showed up today. I didn't order it and it looks like its free! Haha lets see if I actually get it.

And it also says:
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
250GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm
SD 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
No iWork Preinstalled
Keyboard/User's Guide
Country Kit

It says Keyboard rather than Backlit Keyboard. Am I to assume this is a mistake and I am indeed getting the Backlit?
Thanks to anyone who can confirm (any others ordered a 2.4MB what does yours say?)

Back to the thread-------
I bought a 120GB iPod Classic for my dad for $30 less than the Apple Retail Store. I don't have a picture, but I'm sure you all know what it looks like ;)

In the Depths of the SLC!
Curious if you've been able to set that particular drive up to work with time machine/wireless backup via airport extreme? I've had no luck.

I'm still running OSX10.4 Tiger. Haven't found enough reasons to subside the cost to update, especially since I'm looking at getting an iMac in Jan/Feb.

This particular HD is USB only. I would have gotten a FireWire one but they didn't have any in my price range for my storage needs. And FireWire on my MacBook wouldn't have given me much of a speed advantage. The Wireless is a no no on this external hard drive. This is a USB only drive.

I currently use SuperDuper! for my back up needs, it's great!

can a user upgrade the ram or is it only the HDD and battery? and that sucks about the command key not having an apple key.... LAME!

I think I heard somewhere that the RAM is even easier to remove than it was before. You access it through the same door as the battery and HDD.

ooo i couldn't see it on the pictures i've seen

Ok, so I may have lied. Looks like the RAM isn't very user accessible after all. You have to remove the entire bottom of the computer! After that it's a lot easier to get the RAM out.

The more I look at these computers, the more I am tempted to sell my 17" and buy a 15" and the new 24" display that pairs up so nicely. I just don't know if I'd be able to get my money's worth out of this old machine, would I?

Exactly. The RAM that was in mine was Samsung RAM, and they wanted $750 to upgrade it to 4GB. No thanks. I'd rather replace it myself for $130. As for this new computer, who knows why they did this!
