So in other words apple forces 90% of people to buy there more expensive ram through them.. :rolleyes:

Actually their RAM prices are about spot on currently. If you order your system with more memory it is actually competitively priced with sources such as New Egg and such. In the store it may be a different deal, but still, the process of opening the case to access the RAM only takes a couple of screws, and a touch of time :) .

The $150 price for the upgrade to 4GB is pretty competitive but you don't get your 2 1GB sticks back from Apple. If you buy the upgrade elsewhere, you can sell your sticks or keep them in case of a RAM problem.

Oh, I haz me some new toys.

Agreed, 4GiB of RAM on Newegg will set you back $145 whilst Apple will only charge you $150, however 2GiB sells on Newegg for $82 so you could probably flog the set that comes with the machine for $50-60 no problem, which brings the price of doing it yourself down to ~$85-95 which is a fair bit cheaper.

But this is what really annoys me about Apple's prices;

Exactly. The RAM that was in mine was Samsung RAM, and they wanted $750 to upgrade it to 4GB. No thanks. I'd rather replace it myself for $130. As for this new computer, who knows why they did this!

one the new ones its only $150 to upgrade to 4gb ram.

Its also only $80 to install 4gb of memory on your own as well now...

American prices don't include tax whereas we have a whopping 17.5% VAT added to our prices

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod-3G1; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_B like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F138 Safari/525.20)

I love that everyone is forget that the new MacBooks use DDR3, which is more expensive then the RAM from the past MacBooks. Apples RAM seems to be a fair price to get it from them.

Who is everyone :confused:

Quite a few of us on here are agreeing that Apple's price is fair ;) .

...I just don't know if I'd be able to get my money's worth out of this old machine, would I?

Old. Pfft. You're talking to someone still using a 15" PowerBook G4 for daily tasks. Still flies, and I don't care what anyone has to say about it!!

Yeah, I know it's not that old, but it is rather large to carry to school, etc. It is old compared to other MBPs.
