In the Depths of the SLC!
I picked up a My Book external hard drive at Coscto a few days ago. I got it for a measly 101.26! Great deal for 640GB!

western-digital-my-book-external-hard-drives.jpg

I got it up in three partitions. One for my iTunes library (100GB), one for my Bootable MacHD Backup (100GB), and the rest of it is just for backup of my files. I now use my smaller external as a "RAID 0" for my internal HD on my Macbook. After TWO HD failures in my Macbook, I think I'm now bulletproof (I Hope!).

Finally, I did it!
Purchased a new MacBook 2.4 with 4GB of ram (I don't care I got it from Apple it was $141 and it was convenient - dunno where to get the new Ram from in Canada plus its about $100 anyways).
After months of debating MB vs. MBP I felt that I need portability more than a dedicated graphics card.
Also got Adobe Design Premium CS4 for $399.95 which is scheduled to ship Dec.12 - hopefully that gets bumped up! Anyone want to confirm that it will work on a regular MB?

Anyways here is the "Order Status":

Let the waiting game begin!
I promise to post pictures when it arrives!

The new MB really is a sweet machine, with no downside from the previous model other than the loss of FW (which is used frequently by some members, I realize). :)

It's essentially my dream laptop, except I wish it had a higher resolution. When the 15" gets a higher res 1680 x 1050 screen, or when the 13" gets the 1440 x 8** resolution screen that's in the current 15" MBP, it'll be the machine I MUST buy.

I just have to wait. I feel that it'll certainly be in the next update to the MBP.

Anyway, I'm rambling because I'm jealous.

Awww don't be jealous, everyone has their turn hehe. I have a feeling I'm going to love this laptop. The Pro is just too big as a portable for me and I don't need the dedicated GPU. Since both models are now glossy there is no reason to go Pro for matte. 4.5lbs is pretty portable. I was pro all the way cuz of the aluminum, but now I don't have to worry. The new MB will match nicely with my 20" iMac.
I am officially a fangirl haha!

Now when I get my hands on the baby I will have to accessorize it at my local Apple Store hehe. I wish I coulda bought in store but needed to order on the phone for the CS4 deal.

I'm exactly like you!

I like my MacBook's size, don't need the GPU, but wanted aluminium and a matte display.

Now the only reason to get the 15" MBP is the screen resolution, but it's certainly not worth US $700. Stick a matte screen protector on it, and you get a 13" MBP with matte display! ;)

On the other hand, I really need the extra resolution....

I know I'm going to have to wait for rev. B or C.

The only reason to get the dual chipset would be to help your CS4 run like a dream... The chips would help reduce time for applying filters that generally take a looong time. That's the reason I am going for the mid-MacBook Pro

I do so love the occasional game without being tied to my desk (Shhh no comments!) - so I am trading in the MBA for one of these; Yummy NVidia........

So you don't think the cheapest MBP has enough vRAM to speed up CS4? I'm expecting even the 9400M in the MacBook to make a huge difference.

It should because it also has the two NVIDIA chipsets, compared to the MB it should be a bit faster... I would assume all this, i have no experience with the computer yet hahaha

Curious if you've been able to set that particular drive up to work with time machine/wireless backup via airport extreme? I've had no luck.

Shiny box. Very shiny box. Logitech sure knows how to package stuff, I almost didn't want to open it :D

So far I am happy with it.

Some observations I have made

- Screen glare so far is not an issue if you are used to the old Macbook Glossy
- The glass trackpad doesn't feel like glass. If it is, they did a really good implementation of it
- The "click" feel is absolutley awesome, and being able to right click if needed is a nice touch.
- Sound quality is better than I expected, but I came from a C2D 1.83 Macbook
- Love the graphics speed in iPhoto for RAW images from my EOS 40D
- Not thrilled with the "Command" key lacking the Apple logo :(
