I was wondering what a 9700 with OS 6 would be like without the touch screen. Heard a lot about people liking OS 6 on the Torch, but I don't plan on upgrading, just want the new OS. Can you please post a review later? Thanks
After a day on the OS6 beta, my preliminary grade for the OS6 non-touchscreen is a C+. Keep in mind, it's still beta, but I think the OS is still geared more towards touchscreen users. OS5 seemed to be built for trackball/trackpad devices, and now OS6 I think is now shifting its focus.
What I like about OS 6 non-touchscreen vs OS 5:
1) Most things are nicer looking and/or more intuitive to use, built on webkit foundation
2) Webkit/tabbed browser on a traditional BlackBerry! Woohoo.
3) YouTube, Calendar says actual date instead of generic "31", little things like that make me happy
What I don't like about it:
1) If you're used to OS 4/5, operations just take longer (like scrolling to get to your apps list vs. hitting BlackBerry button). However, this is more intuitive to new users since BB key will always bring up a menu.
2) Lag, especially in browser.
3) Transitions, pretty but slow.
Overall, I'd sum up the two like this:
OS 5 is geared more towards raw speed, while OS 6 doesn't mind slowing things down a bit to make things easier to user. Hope it helps.
