Definitely. I immediately skipped everything but Aperture/Shutter priority. Got pretty good with those and moved on to manual. I figured i can do one of two things. 1) Read and watch a million videos, or 2) Start shooting, playing with settings, etc until i learn everything. I'm more of a hands on person, so i started that way. I still read a lot and watch a lot of videos for the things i don't understand yet (which is a lot), but i find that i learn better by DOING. As long as i leave ISO on auto i do pretty well. Shoot and learn. I do that a lot.

I've been doing pretty much the same. I've found a few good sites and youtube video series that have taught me quite a bit. A few friends have also helped me along. But yeah, I've found that I've learned the most by simply shooting. I like to take the same picture over and over and change up the settings to see how they affect the outcome.
I haven't bought any major accessories yet, mostly because I want to get comfortable with the kit lens first, and then decide what type of shooting I'll want to do next.
