Graduating in 2 days. Just paid GLAdvisor for a year of financial planning/advice. Guy misquoted me in an email last month, so I even saved $200 :D:D

Definitely. I immediately skipped everything but Aperture/Shutter priority. Got pretty good with those and moved on to manual. I figured i can do one of two things. 1) Read and watch a million videos, or 2) Start shooting, playing with settings, etc until i learn everything. I'm more of a hands on person, so i started that way. I still read a lot and watch a lot of videos for the things i don't understand yet (which is a lot), but i find that i learn better by DOING. As long as i leave ISO on auto i do pretty well. Shoot and learn. I do that a lot. :)

ISO on auto? CHEATER! ;)

I've been doing pretty much the same. I've found a few good sites and youtube video series that have taught me quite a bit. A few friends have also helped me along. But yeah, I've found that I've learned the most by simply shooting. I like to take the same picture over and over and change up the settings to see how they affect the outcome.

I haven't bought any major accessories yet, mostly because I want to get comfortable with the kit lens first, and then decide what type of shooting I'll want to do next.

However, I just ordered a Lenspen and a Giottos Rocket Air Blaster:

Karl Taylor has a site that has a lot of good videos that show good techniques and ideas. He also has YouTube videos as well. As far as lens and camera reviews, i love DigitalRevTV on YouTube. It doesn't hurt that Kai is ridiculously funny. Other than that, i use a bunch of websites i've randomly come across for reading. I think my next lens might be the 100mm L-Series macro lens by Canon. Actually, i don't think i'll buy anything but L-Series lenses now that i've seen a lot of quality comparison. I have about $10,000 worth of lenses i want already. lol. Soon i need to start looking into speedlights/LightSphere though.

Its Mothers Day on Sunday here in NZ and as we have a 10 week old little girl and it'll be my wife's first Mothers Day, I figured I'd skip the usual standard card from a store and instead try and make one from our daughter for her. Saw a cool idea on the web where someone had made a flower card but had used card hand and foot prints for the petals/leaves etc and had a picture in the middle so going to have a crack at that on the sly at the weekend :) Fingers crossed it works!

Oh and from me I got her a 1.5hr Yummy Mummy Spa Package as shes got it full on with the little girl being a stay at home Mom for now so she needs a break for a bit.

I've recently picked up some new reading material, a stone resin figure of Tux and I also had a set of slate coasters made. Fans of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series should recognize the image on the coaster.

Long days and pleasant nights.

Awesome coaster. Want.

I'm stoked to start The Wind Through the Keyhole. Once I finish Game of Thrones, I'll be starting it. I think I started reading that series 20 years ago!

May you have twice the number. We are well met, are we not?

It was about 20 years ago that I started the series as well, I really enjoyed revisiting Roland and his ka-tet in The Wind Through the Keyhole. Finishing that book has prompted me to reread the series, just started in about a week ago.

Yeah! Definitely easier than spending hours & hours trying to figure out the most effective way of paying down six-figure student loan debt...

I was actually really frustrated with them for not getting back to me...especially after I told them I wanted to give them my business - but it will ultimately be fine.

New TV for my birthday....A bargain too! Shop display, but unmarked 46" Bravia 3D. I looked at the LED stuff, but still find the colours too warm and unnatural...This one with a 3 year warranty cost me £485...Still can't work out exactly how to use it though...:D
