Purchased a 13" MacBook Air and iPad Mini Retina 32GB with Applecare and Applecare+ and the iLap stand. Probably went overboard with getting Applecare for both, but I like the peace of mind it provides. I tend to have tons of anxiety so anything that lessens that helps.

And a non-coffee related purchase, a Belkin Lightning cable, cause the Apple one is badly frayed

Ah, another lover of coffee…….bravo, excellent! Well met, friend….

I have sampled quite a few offerings from The Black Cat company (as recommended by fellow - ah - enthusiasts on the espresso thread on this very forum, you should drop in and pay it a visit sometime, a very welcoming and enjoyable thread) and found most of them very good, some excellent and a few outstanding.

What are your thoughts on the Blue Tokai? Is it worth sampling, or looking into further? Do you recommend the company, or one particular product supplied by them?

No, not at all. I don't think for one minuet that you 'went overboard' in choosing to buy Applecare. Personally, I always get Applecare on any Apple laptop (and iPad) that I purchase, for exactly the same reason, namely, peace of mind.

Hey there! Yes, i'm aware of the espresso enthusiasts thread, and i keep a weather eye on it, but am worried if i venture too deep in it, Shrink might turn me even more into a coffee connoisseur than I already am! :D

And yes, this isnt the first time i'm having Intellegentsia's (Thats the name of the roaster :) ) Black Cat. I found the 2013 blend to be quite good, but it does change in taste every season so i'm hoping the 2014 one is good as well.

As for Blue Tokai, unfortunately, as i'm based in India, they're an Indian company, and i'm not quite sure if they deliver overseas. As for a recommendation, their Attikan Arabica is pretty damn good, and I'm now waiting on the sampler to try more. But since i'm pretty much an espresso (or espresso based milk drink snob), i think some of their other roasts might not be what i'm looking for.

As for espresso roasts that I recommend, I'd say Blue Tokai's Attican Arabica, and Flying Squirrel's "Parama" are pretty damn good. Great as a shot, and mix really well with steamed milk (Something that I myself love about Black Cat)

Thanks very much for your reply, and yes, of course, I stand corrected; it is, of course, the Intelligentsia label, and not Black Cat (and, as I have a few of their packages here in my room, this is inexcusable), but, delighted by actually being able to recognise a label in your post, I shot off a reply too early).

Never mind. I shall google the products you mention, as, I am currently based in central Asia, not all that far away from India.

Espresso served as both a shot (or two), and/or with steamed milk meets with my full approval…..

Excellent choice of purchases! Although I'm not too sure about that last, non-coffee one. ;)

I've had cheap hoses that I've had to replace the connectors on a million times. Thought I would go for the expensive one this time.

bought a bunch of neverkind hoses, they all kink. you have to go for the premium rubber if you want to reduce the kinks, but unfortunately, they're the most expensive kind.

I understand the peace of mind you need. I no longer use Apple Care warranties. I only use SquareTrade.

I use Applecare for Apple products due to my good experiences in the past, but I also have my fair share of SquareTrade warranties for my other electronics. Both warranties are great. My decision to choose Applecare for Apple products is because there is no fixed dollar limit to the warranty like with SquareTrade.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Last I checked, Apple won't help you if you experience immersion / water damage on the Apple product. Square Trade will. Square Trade will cover you for up to 3 years on many products. AppleCare = 2, right? I think Square Trade is also less expensive.

I helped a very clutzy friend process TWO claims on her iPhone 4 via Square Trade. Once was immersion and the other - she had smashed it in her car door. Both times she paid a $50 deductible and replacement phone was sent to her - no hassle.

No more AppleCare for me.

Applecare+ will cover those damages for a similar deductible on the iPad and a slightly higher deductible on the iPhone. Yes, traditional Applecare for Apple computers does not cover accidental damages. I opted not to cover accidental damages on my laptop as I was much more interested in having the unfixed warranty amount on hardware defects on the laptop, but the warranties are very similar when you compare Applecare+ vs. SquareTrade. As for longevity, you are correct in that Applecare+ for iOS devices is 2 years, but the extended Applecare for Apple computers is 3 years.

Again, it's very much a preference thing and which warranty service meets the end user's needs. Different people have different needs and uses for their devices. It seems like SquareTrade is much better for your use case. Either way, both warranty services are great. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either.

A friend of mines who had a cardiac arrest recently got an iPad Mini, so I bought her a smart case + gift packaging for it. I also plan on getting her mom a $50 Target gift card.

I just ordered a newly designed blind tumbler to use with my coffee grinder.

Aesthetically, I must say that your 'blind tumbler' looks rather lovely; what is it made from, (stainless steel?). And, more to the point, what exactly is it designed to do?

I lovely and thoughtful gift.

I hope your friend is doing well now...:)

I'm in complete agreement with Shrink. A lovely and thoughtful gift, indeed.

Small, but practical, thoughtful gifts are exactly what individuals recovering from serious illnesses or other such health problems need, but are rarely able to fully articulate; a great idea.
