New Broyhill kitchen table at a good deal - unfortunately, it's a weird height and the wallet says chairs will have to wait a little bit.

I ordered the Garmin nüvi 56LM GPS Navigators System with Spoken Turn-By-Turn Directions, Preloaded Maps and Speed Limit Displays (USA and Canada) from Amazon.com.

I spent the last hour looking at all the different models available and needed to find the right one that allows you to program your own custom routes. I had to reference Garmin's website to ensure I bought one that met my needs. I didn't need the Bluetooth option since Ford Sync covers that with the iPhone and I didn't/couldn't use the lifetime traffic option because I don't live in one of their covered areas.

This is replacing a very old, but trusty, Nuvi 205.

I tried Apple Maps hooked up to Ford Sync the other day and Apple took me all over the place, in areas and streets I didn't want to go and made my trip longer than it should have been. It's too bad Apple won't let you program a custom route, because if you could, I wouldn't likely buy a new Garmin. But, on the other hand, I do like having a dedicated GPS unit in the car.

It doesn't let me turn TouchID on unless I have a passcode turned on, though. Every single time I unlock it makes me do both. :/

That's weird. It's supposed to unlock with just a fingerprint. You do have to set a passcode just in case though and have to use it when you restart the phone. Try rescanning your fingerprints...

How? Mine asks for passcode every time still.

Not sure what your problem is, make sure to have the settings for Touch ID on for "iPhone Unlock."

(General > Touch ID & Passcode > Touch ID)

It will only take you to the passcode screen when your finger fails 3x in a row or when you turn your phone off/on. It will say "try again" when your finger isn't recognized. Make sure you set it up properly under the same settings and you are using the same finger(s) you scanned initially.

If nothing else works, go to the Apple store?

Honest question, why not just use Google Maps? Is it just that you like having a dedicated GPS unit?

It's because Google Maps doesn't speak your directions on iOS, or if it does, I couldn't figure it out. I spent 15 minutes or so messing with it and gave up. Plus I do like having the dedicated unit anyway.

Google maps is really annoying when it speaks the directions, in my car it always connects to the bluetooth like its a phone call and stops the music.

How do you get the Google Maps to speak directions on iOS?

Not sure it just always worked that way. I have an Audi and it connects as if it's a phone call and goes over the car speakers. But when I had my mustang which had sync it just spoke over the phone speakers(that was before apple maps though I think back in late 2011-2012).
