Very nice.

I know, I am a bit excited, the 27" monitors came in today, the stand will be tomorrow, Colormunkie monitor calibrator tomorrow but the iMac won't be in until next week. The built-in VESA mount pushed it back a few days but that's ok. It will be awesome once it all gets set up.

I'm also excited that the monitors are very very close already, in color, to my current iMac screen. They aren't as bright but very close, for the cost.... I am not one to complain.

An additional pair of Apple EarPods. As someone who traditionally buys aftermarket in lieu of even bothering to try the headphones that come with a new device, when I tried these for the first time the other day I was genuinely surprised at how good they sound, plus, bonus: ear-buds that actually fit my ears well. I'm sure there's a lot of aftermarket stuff that sounds better, but these work for me, plus the inline remote...sold!

In a coffee shop.
Well, the absinthe arrived, and it became obvious that I desperately needed more absinthe spoons for my collection. The reason that I needed them...

On to the tasting...absinthe is a kind of push-pull situation. The thujone (a GABA blocker for those who care), by blocking the GABA receptor sites, renders the neuron much more easily excited, as GABA lowers excitation threshold, and the thujone blocks the GABA uptake, so you have a stimulant effect.

The very high alcohol content (usually 50%-70% alcohol by volume...that's 100-140 proof) has a depressant effect, and additionally causes cognitive and behavioral disinhibition.

The subjective effect is feeling the alcohol effect from the neck down...very physically relaxed. From the neck up there is a clarity of mind not associated with an alcohol buzz. So I felt very relaxed, but clearheaded.

All in all...a very pleasant experience!:D

The spoons are part of the absinthe preparation ritual. The absinthe (1 oz) is poured into the glass. The spoon is placed across the mouth of the glass and a sugar cube is placed on the spoon. Then ice water is slowly drizzled over the sugar, melting it into the absinthe. Usually about 3-4 ounces of water is added, giving a 3-4:1 ratio of water to absinthe.

There are many different kinds of absinthe, with many different tastes, although the taste of anise is usually dominant.

OK...one more absinthe spoon...and a charming T shirt.

For those so incredibly bored they'd like to see some other spoons recently purchased, and a brief (but remarkably boring considering it's brevity) description of my first experience with absinthe see Post# 1838 on this thread.

Firstly, thank you for the necessary reminder of post 1838. I have been rather busy these past few days, so my brief trips to MR have been more in the nature of flying visits, and I missed this crucial post and its sequels.

Secondly, my, my, what a collection of spoons. The idiot hoarder (nay, refined connoisseur of beautiful and only occasionally useful objets d'art) in me drools, in an unabashed manner.

And thirdly, oh, yes. Thank you for invoking memories of that sledgehammer bliss. I can only remark on how grateful I am that I am not in a position to currently replicate this ever so delightful sensation. I am impressed. And more than a little envious. Enjoy and have one for me…….

Yes..."idiot hoarder", or accessory freak, I think covers it nicely!

I will raise one to you, mon amie, a bit later...:D

This begs the question of when the long awaited absinthe actually arrived. Were you at home for this august occasion? More to the point, did you order more than one bottle of this magnificent beverage?

And yes, aren't the accessories just ever so delightful?

Well, I shall vicariously enjoy the fact that you will sample, and savour some sledgehammer bliss on my behalf……..thank you…..

Obviously, I was busy, but I cannot believe that I missed the important announcement of the arrival of the absinthe….…...

The absinthe finally arrived 3 days ago. It took them 10 days to ship, and then 11 days to arrive here. I ordered one bottle, but after trying it, ordered two more. I should also get my absinthe fountain, which I discovered is on back order after I ordered it, sometime during the first or second week of April. Just as well, as I have learned to do the absinthe ritual by hand, and then will have the beauty (and aid) of the fountain. I stuck with the order because it was very difficult to find a fountain that would fit under the cabinets on my counter (where it will be kept on display between uses), and had a high enough clearance of the spigots to accommodate my rather tall absinthe glass.

And, yes, I love the accessories...spoons, fountain, and the proper sugar cubes. I'm such a self indulgent baby!:D

Yes, I had a feeling that further bottles would be a feature of your life. As, indeed, they would be of mine, in similar circumstances.

Now, to the fountain. An excellent idea. Quite beautiful and an utterly compulsory purchase in the circumstances. For, if you are about to embark upon this path, of sheer nihilistic delight, it is, of course, entirely necessary to do so in a wholehearted and completely committed manner; as is already the case for certain aficionados of espresso.

Now, finally, the rather impressive t-shirt; was this a part of the original package, or a separate acquisition? Indeed, is that particular accessory worn during the demanding ritual of absinthe preparation, or merely admired as another accessory? (Although I am most mindful of the fact that absinthe accessories actually get to be used - rather than simply admired - during the exquisitely elegant preparation process)…..

So pretty :)....... I bought a 2013 last year and love it. I was going to get a Audi but couldn't justify paying double.

Just bought by parents a 2014 Nissan Sentra. They had been driving my 2001 Jetta GLI that had become a money pit death trap.

Thanks, I was in the same mindset that my next would be an A5. But while at the dealer having my 09 CC serviced I fell in love with the GLI, Its a bit of a down grade in extras from the CC, But so much more fun to drive at half the cost of the A5.

No excuses on the T shirt. I came across it on a site devoted to artists producing many different kinds of art, so I bought it mainly because I liked it and will wear it during the summer...and justified it by knowing that I was supporting (in a very small way) the artist who created the shirt.

How's that for a nice bit of rationalization...:p

I, too, thought the fountain was a wonderful looking piece of retro, art nouveau, equipment.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and got the 4 input Porta HDMI Switcher. Hooked up My Xbox1, PS4, WiiU and Xbox360. Definitely like the feature that it automatically detects which system is on and displays it's video. So far I tested the Xbox1, WiiU and Xbox360 and they work perfectly. I wasn't able to test the PS4 as ironically I didn't have a spare power port in my surge protector left.

One thing I don't like is that you need the USB cable to power up the El Gato device. Whenever I don't want to stream/record I'm going to have to remove it or have my computer on. I wanted to setup everything and leave it without the hassle of connecting the GATO device everytime I wanted to stream. Oh well, it's still definitely better though. Thanks again.

Just discovered that some tv/movie apps on the Xbox One, and probably soon on the PS4 once they push the HDCP patch, won't let you view shows and movies while connected to the Elgato. It all depends on the system and app, but just a heads up.

1 Server
1 XRay Server
1 App Server
3 Workstations

I have 2 Dr's Offices and these are going to the new location + 2 of my older 27" iMacs.
This is a reason I usually get a new iMac sometimes yearly, we expand or hire a new employee that needs a workstation, so my current iMac gets erased and goes to work and I get a newer machine for me.
I have been doing this since '08 and yes my '07 iMac is still going strong after 40+hrs/week for 10yrs (I bought the Mac in 07 it went to the clinic in 08).

Some of my employees don't need a 27" screen as much as some others so a Mac Mini and 20" screens will have to do.
