True. I'm uncomfortable with people being me presents as they might need that money themselves, I also hate the obligation placed upon someone to buy a present in return, of a similar value.

I hate the thought of them buying me something I don't want. This way its guarantees their money isn't wasted, but I'd rather not receive anything at all, but that makes them feel uncomfortable. Weird isn't it.

I should clarify, my wife and I generally buy each other gifts still, but it's generally things to enjoy. Jewellery, or a little coffee machine, or a portable bluetooth speaker, etc. Not something like tools, where it's (for most of us) just a means to an end, to solve a problem.

Last purchase.
A big coffee / espresso thing-a-ma-bobber.

Celebration reason.
To be at the point to have the ability to be able to purchase a big coffee / espresso thing-a-ma-bobber.
And they discounted it quite a bit due to everyone else celebrating Christmas.

Thanks for the gift Ya'll.

I recently bought my younger daughter, a senior in high school, an M1 MacBook Air, which she wanted. She subsequently discovered that the software she uses (Blender 3D and GIMP) apparently runs better on a WIN machine. Or so she tells me.

After much online research, I settled on an ASUS TUF gaming laptop with a decent GPU that should do what she needs.

Returning the MacBook to Apple was dead simple; I wasn't even asked why I wanted to return it.

I'm bummed that the Mac didn't work out, but it's for her, not me. I toyed with the idea of having her send me the Air, but couldn't justify it as I wouldn't use a laptop very often. My intel Mini and iPad Pro cover my needs quite nicely.

That said, the ASUS sounds like it ought to be a beast, even though it's considered a budget gaming machine.

Santa came early this year. :D

The new Magic Keyboard is great, the M1 chip is blazing fast and True Tone is a nice touch. It's crazy how it's completely silent and ice cold during the setup process. Not a whisper! Very worthwhile upgrade from my previous 2018 model.

What made you go with the Air and not the Pro? I'm just asking because my buddy got talked into buying the Pro which is the same price as the top of the line Air. I told him he was basically paying for less HDD space and the Touch Bar.

I despise the Touch Bar on my 2018 MBP... will stick with the MBA because of it...

Tried living the 1 car for 2 people life and that lasted only a month. Went and picked up a 2020 Lexus 250h as a second car to my Tesla M3 that my wife took over!

Was thinking about it, but I find it easier to drive to the bus stop even on days I take the bus/train, so we kept both of our cars, but instead decided on this "hybrid approach" and its working well for me.

Rather than trying to coordinate when she can drop me off or pick me up from the bus stop, since the bus stop isn't just a little "walk" for us, we are kind of far away from it. Thankfully the park and ride lots have proven itself useful, and a great method to save money and not sit in traffic, while still having the convenience of having a car after work, to be able to pick up groceries, etc. Best of both worlds.

It's the same laptop right just without the touch bar and weight?

Essentially... there are some subtle differences, though... screen brightness, speakers, battery life (most likely caused by smaller chassis and space for the battery).

Number of ports being the main one which is why I went with the Pro over the Air this time.

My M1 Air delivered today after being on a 2017MBP. Good lord what a difference!!

I have missed this keyboard sooooooooooooo much after the debacle of the other keyboard. This thing is silent and ridiculously fast. I haven't really pushed the battery life but I assume its going to be fantastic.

Haven't been this happy with a MacBook in quite some time. Well done Apple.

I’ve had a few MBPs (both 13” and 15”) and I’ve always preferred the Air. Now that the Air has the same processor as the Pro (minus one GPU-core) and the same P3 wide color gamut the choice was easier than ever.

Personal preference, but I prefer the tapered edge design, lower weight (arguably not much these days) and the MBA is now fanless. But mainly it comes down to....

...Exactly this!!

Since the entry level models are now so good, I’d rather opt for the more affordable models and upgrade more often. I don’t overpay for Apples RAM-prices and skip the idea of “future proofing”. I’d rather upgrade every two years and enjoy all the technological advancements.

Guess I will be tempted by the rumored Mini-LED redesign in 2022 again...
