Well, it's only our experience, but we replaced the kitchen appliances in this house pretty soon after we moved in, so that puts them at close to 18 years old. All GE Profile stainless, whatever the top of the line consumer grade products were (at the time).

Dishwasher - crapped out early this year, had been so-so for a couple, probably failing jets, I actually bought new ones, the panel went out, sent the parts back (failed before I installed them), got a new Bosch (it's so quiet ...)
Fridge - replaced a logic board (~$125), but also fixed the old one ($5, replaced a few caps), had two icemaker issues (just generally bad design with the motor/auger hub), got a special 3rd party hub/parts that are way better, fixed for 2+ years, clogged drain, free fix
Oven/Range - no issues*
Microwave/convection oven - door switches replaced (one went out, prevented starting due to safety switch), ~$40 for two (replaced both, figured WTH), a bulb (replaced at the same time, only accessible by unmounting ...)

So a few DIYs, under $200 maintenance across 18 years, and finally, one item with a complete failure (though dishwashers + our water, I'm thrilled with the years of service).






*I have of course doomed myself ...

Our last dishwasher was Bosch. Sold it with our last house. We had it for 12 years. We ordered a Bosch one for our new kitchen. That was in January. One day we’ll actually get the kitchen we paid for finished!

Dude, I recently ordered a cordless weed wacker, uses the same 40v system as our other Greenworks tools - I am SO EXCITED, hahaha

They certainly have their evangelists! Having used them for two days, my first impressions are they are very comfortable for standing and short walks, though for longer walks I prefer my Ultraboost (though I guess those blur the line between lifestyle and running shoes). I really love the look of the Allbirds though, more understated than my grey/red Ultraboost.



Are the Tree Runners cooler (temperature, not style... ) to wear? Found these a little warm in 20 degree celcius weather today, although not uncomfortably so. Wouldn't mind another more casual pair, and the pacific blue Tree Runners they sell look nice.

They are definitely cooler to wear. That is why I like them better than the wool. It gives a feel of better all around comfort.

Finally decided to get these and they are great. A huge improvement from the originals, at least for me with the fact they can fit in my ear better when I work out and go running.

Don't know why I waited so long, but just bought my first pair of wireless headphones, Sony WH1000mx3. They are life-changing. How did I live without these? I have some low-end wired phones, but .... I can't believe what I've been missing! I can't wear any type of in-ear device so over/on-the-ear was the option. I tried Beats Studio3 on a few fave tunes and returned them an hour later for the mx3s. Even ANC-ing the fridge running is thrilling. 😆

Ordered some upgraded parts for my sons main gaming pc.

So we are going from an Intel 7700K 4Core/8Thread. 500GB SSD. 16GB RAM. 1080Ti.

to

An AMD 3700X, 1TB nVMe drive. Then an Intel WiFi 6 PCIE module. I don't want a 30' cable running across the floor so from what I've been reading, this chip has much much better latency and throughput compared to the older Asus PCIE card that is in it currently.

Those are the main upgrades.
I am leaving the RAM alone because when I built this system in 2017, I got 3600MHz RAM, which is still quick 3 years later. Yikes and it was $250 for 16GB back when purchased.
I don't want to get a 2000 series nVidia card at this point, we'll just wait for a 3000 series later this year.

This is a hardline watercooled system and I lent out my finishing bit, which is one of THE single best products I've come across when doing hardlines.

Also it's time to completely clean out this loop. I have LOTS of time at home after recent medical issues so hey why not.
And it was free.
I had credit card points and Amazon gives a pretty decent exchange rate.

In hindsight i should've got the 2020 model. The 'discount' has barely been worth it, because finding OEM accessories for this thing has been a PITA

What sort of accessories? If cases - you know the 2020 cases will fit the 2018 iPPs...

Don't ask me how I manage to lose dinner forks, but anyway I have finally lost enough of the ones in my stainless steel tableware to order four more from the manufacturer. I would have thought it would be knives that go missing since they can get adopted to "fix" stuff now and then, but no, somehow it's forks. The squirrels in the attic may have got a little above themselves if you ask me. Anyway four of these (Oneida, Paul Revere 18/10 satin finish) are en route so I can stop making salad forks do for pasta.

I use mine every day as it’s my primary personal computing device when I’ve finished my working day and am no longer glued to a laptop. I only use it for social media, YouTube and surfing the net so I like to keep them for 4 years as a very well used device. Quite impressed with the 7th generation iPad. Considering it’s only £349 (less than my AWS5) I think it offers a lot.

I tend to use my iPhone XS Max or Mac mini. The only laptop I have is my work MacBook Air. I don’t use that for personal stuff. But even when I use that it’s on a stand with a separate keyboard and mouse and 27” screen. Not a fan of laptops.
