Mmmm.... Nice looking setup man! ;) By the way, what camera is that? 40D?

Thanks! And no, it's the 400D (Rebel XTi). I could choose between getting the 40D (body only) and the 100mm macro lens, and getting the 400D (with the kit lens), 100mm macro and ring flash. Since I work taking macro pics and lighting is always a big challenge, it was a no brainer. :D As soon as I get the macro lens I'll post a few pics ;)

Looking forward to seeing them. I'm sure that'll provide you some good lighting ;)

maybe im a huge jerk but can you keep really bad mockups out of this thread? ps2p? ugh its such a bad mockup. a common complaint about psp is lack of dual analog sticks. now going down to one? yeah right.

Now I just have to wait for the 100mm f2.8 Macro lens to get here next week :)
Hah, I looked at your post & wondered for a moment why the hell has he got a ring flash on the stock lens?!. I love my 100mm macro, but I haven't used it anywhere near enough :( People are always shocked at how much the thing extends as you turn the focus ring!

I just got mine with my new Mac - I'm in love. I wish I would have gotten one when they first came out!!

Oh, as am I. The new Apple keyboard, second to ex-my T41, is the best keyboard I've ever typed on! I have the wired one, if they made a BT one with a number pad I'd be in. It just looks weird without one, IMHO. I don't know why.

:D No, no... Getting the ring flash was a decision I made after getting the 100mm macro. :)

I assume you have the old, non-USM version, because the new one is an IF (internal focus) lens. And yes, you should use it more often! I used a macro lens with my Canon S1 IS and loved it! I've taken over 30K macro pics in the last two years, so I felt that a macro lens was the first thing I'd buy if I ever got a DSLR.

No, I have a 100mm macro, but not the same as yours. I use M-series K-mount Pentax gear, so my lenses are all Pentax M series (apart from a couple of cheapies).

Awful photos I know, but demonstrates what I meant by how much the focus extends the element!

Also, kit lenses sure ain't what they used to be either;

Nice set up! I have a Nikon D50 with a Sigma 105 mm macro lens and Sigma ring flash. I'm a dentist, so I use my camera for one thing only - intraoral/dental photography.

Just purchased this to go with my MacBook. Hopefully a Mac Mini isn't too far behind. :D

Oh. Sorry about that, the only macro lenses I had researched when buying a DSLR were from Sigma, Tamron, Nikon and Canon, and only Canon had a 100mm macro lens.

BTW, that lens must scare little critters! Thank goodness for IF! :D

How's that working for you? I've heard it's a great combo for that kind of photography.
