Seems like Blu Ray is the clear winner, so i might be forced to buy a PS3 in the next year or so. Unfortunately they stopped making the PS3's with the hardware support for PS2 games, it's only software based now, which results in lower performance, but oh well, i would probably only play PS3 games anyways.

If I'm not mistaken - I thought ALL PS3s did software emulation for PS2 and PS1. This is what I heard was the source of many incompatabilities with gameplay.

I know the PS2 had a PS1 chipset in it, but I thought the PS3 emulated PS2 and PS1.

Because if it's hardware rendering in my PS3, I want some (#*$ing answers from Sony for the total garbage PS1 and PS2 support. (music drop-outs, movies not rendering, ect...)

That said, still love my PS3. Slim-line PS2 isn't going anywhere anytime soon. (why waste 400W to play Jumping Flash, when I can use 32W to do the same?) And Dual-Shock is still an "old school" exclusive Sony-wise. ;)

When did they do that? I got my PS3 when it first came out. I paid $700:eek:

If you visit the wikipedia page for the PS3, it shows that only the 20GB and 60GB versions have hardware support, which was a chip on the motherboard that dealt with all the PS2 games. Now it is software based, so they can upgrade it, but it still will not be as good as having a dedicated processing chip.

So it was the PS1 games that were always emulated, but PS2 had hardware support?

Strange. Glad I got the 1st gen PS3 and didn't skimp out.

If you have a 20GB or 60GB PS3, there is a separate processing chip that deals with the PS2 games, any other PS3, and the PS2 games are in an emulation mode, so it's like running windows in parallels, it isn't native. The PS3's with the hardware support will run PS2 games a lot better.

EDIT: I read a little more, and it is the same CPU that was in the PS2 that they put in the original PS3's.

I was worried about this as well, but I came to the conclusion that the only PS2 games I'd end up playing were my favorite FF's and such, so I settled for an 80GB (ps2 software emulation) over a 60gb (which has the ps2 chip). The performance is not really noticeable, but it's a much smaller list of compatible games. There's a BC list on the PS3 site, though.

where did you find that!

Definitely on ebay.

I really got tired of waiting and waking up at 4:00AM to look at the ads on Sunday's to try and find one. In addition, to calling stores everyday of the week.

I paid $370.00 and I figure that's a pretty good deal considering it will be here by Tuesday and I placed the order on Friday. Furthermore, if I find one in stores, I'll throw it on ebay too.

I can't wait. Until then, I'm just playing with my Xbox 360 Elite. (I got it like two weeks ago)

Most people who know me know I eat at least 8 salads a week. This was something that I smelled and just had to have a slice.
