Received my Mac mini late last week and just finished arranging my desk :)

Thanks for sharing all the mini setups. Love all of them!
I have always been an iMac user and just coming up to replace my 2017 5k 27". The M1 has changed my thinking - the mini and iMac 24 have same core spec.
Selling an iMac and shipping has always been a pain - physically, locating buyer, shipping and the loss! Also seems mad to keep moving on a superb monitor.
For first time now considering a mini I can swop out and a large monitor and desktop I can keep. Also lets me have choice of speakers, proper keyboard (I love mechanical) and maybe a curved monitor - 49" 5120x2160 Samsung and Philips look compelling though VA rather than IPS a little concerning.
Anyway ... rambling as ever. The posts of setups is super helpful and inspiring! So much so I am seriously considering defecting from iMac to mini!

So jealous of your beautiful setups!
Here’s my crappy setup...

Looks used, therefore I like it. So many set-ups pictured look so posed, pretty and pristine, looking like they are artefacts for show rather than tools for daily use.

Interesting, a Mac Mini user since the 2005 original appeared, now in a different place and situation, my next computer will likely be an M1 iMac.

Lovely one!

Everyone here try to make theirs an untouched setup. lol

I love the way you proudly shows the wood desktop. Wood is such a wonderful material, and its rawness is so delightfully contrasted with your tech, I loved it!

You uses the logitech mouse while MM is charging or keep booth of them both in use?

The Logitech mouse was left over from my old PC, and I normally keep it packed up until I need it. For some reason, my MM2 has been acting weird (won’t move across the screen), so I thought charging it would help.

Thanks for the compliment though. Didn’t expect to get anything more than a thumbs up, to be honest.

I agree. People make them look like they’re in an IKEA or Apple Store. 🤷‍♂️

It's kinda frequent issue. There is so many radio frequencies going around you MacMini, this can lead to an unexpected behavior of bluetooth connection. I wouldn't let that Linksys router too near your mouse.

I’m curios on reasons to move from mini setup.

I never even thought about the router until you mentioned it! Thanks, I’ll definitely put it somewhere else.

An expat teacher when for years, I wanted a desktop computer that was easily occasionally portable that I could use with a monitor of my own choice on my desk, or hook up to an LCD projector in class from time to time. I didn't want a laptop, with a poky little screen, and had no need for a computer to take with me every day. When the Mac Mini arrived on the scene in 2005, it was a fit for my need, so I got one...... When the power supply and HDD failed in 2009, I got another Mac Mini, which I am still using today (still with the original HDD).

Back in 2017 I started using more computer based material for teaching, and needed a computer in class most days, so got a MacBook Air. It became my mainstay at work, but I still used the Mini for research, writing, setting up spreadsheets, and so on, as well as for my own day to day uses (photography, communications, etc). I prefer use a decent sized monitor to the small screen of a laptop. So the Mini and the Air complemented each other.

Now returned to my home country, I still have the Air (not used much at present, but will be when I return to study next year), so I no longer need the transportability of the Mini.

The 2009 Mini must be approaching the end of its days, as is the wired Apple keyboard I am using. I did think of upgrading to an M1 Mini, but would also want an upgrade from the 1080 display I am using now..... However 4K monitors are hard to come by where I am at, and pricey.

For the cost of an M1 Mini plus a half decent 4K monitor, I can put an M1 iMac with a Retina display on my desk with a whole lot less hassle. From my point of view, in my present situation, it's a no brainer.

You have to mind the I/O ports, @Micky Do

The M1 Mac Mini is a hell of a computer, with a lot of USB offerings.

Considering the mid/high tier of iMac it would be more clever.

The mid tier iMac with 2 TB and 2 USB costs U$1.499 and the Mini costs U$699.

You won't spent that much on a display, no matter where you live right now. This one is a top one and costs U$449, for instance.

Further than the cost, the two computers have two different approaches. The iMac is a combo, a solution in one box. The Mini is more versatile computer, can be mounted in different scenarios (as you can see in this thread), can be hooked to a multitude of different displays and fill multiple needs.

In this thread you can see people working with music, that needs more space on the desktop. People who might work with financial forecasts and needs big displays. People who minds the colour integrity of their setup and need special screens.

An iMac won't fill those desks so easily.

As I said, from my point of view, in my situation...... in response to the curiosity of agregson

I was not overthinking the generalised cleverness and versatility of the M1 Mac Mini compared to the M1 iMac

Sure, other people have different needs, but I am neither creating music nor a financial forecaster, and am never likely to be. I have had photos used in the sports pages of local newspapers, but do not aspire to become a professional photographer.

My 2005 Mac Mini had only 2 USB ports...... Needed more so I bought a hub. The new iMac has 2 or 4 USB ports, to connect a variety of hubs or docks, depending on needs.

I don't know about where you are at, but here on an island in the South Pacific, good luck shopping around for a 4K monitor at any price.

Once the Mac Mini was right for me. Now my situation has changed, the new M1 iMac looks like a hassle free fit going ahead.

Ordered a base M1 refurb ($759 Canadian) from the Apple store last week and it was delivered to my door in record time. Dropped it into my aging 2010 mini w/ 24" ACD setup and giddy-up. A very modest but most satisfying upgrade (to say the least)...

I looked at your post earlier and I must confess I've been thinking all afternoon how beautiful that glass desk is.
