I have really been debating selling my iMac and going with a MBP + 24" monitor. I have been using a laptop and monitor setup at work and it has been working out fine. Your setup is awesome.

Thanks. In your case you might be better off just looking for a cheap refurb/used notebook since you already have the desktop and it might cost you more to transition but if you don't really mind then by all means go for it. Its a very versatile setup.

In my case the situation was reversed, i already had the notebook and was thinking about getting an iMac to supplement because i missed having a full kb/mouse/display

However, i figured it was cheaper to just get a display rather than buying another full fledged comp. Plus i'm not really a fan of the iMac chin...it'd make the display too tall/high for comfort viewing on my specific desk. Also keeping two computers in sync is NOT an easy task.

Luckily, i found a great deal on the display (shop around or get a refurb. Don't buy RRP...unless you're loaded of course), which made the decision a no brainer for me

Well, still kind of getting settled in my new apartment... but here it is.

and yes, I know my Ethernet cable is just hanging out, we wired the apt. for gigabit, but ran out of ports (filled up the airport.. damn xbox took my port), so its wireless N for mee until we get a switch

and wire management... needs work. i know.

Well, after a tons of photos I've seen I'm gonna add some, too.

you're welcome, really nice setup, by the way - what type of Dell displays you've ? Are those "Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP - LCD 24" ?

Hi:) Well I was thinkin about this display, but at the end I've chosen Samsung F2380 - half price and is really enough for my needs. What's ur profession if I can ask, you got this setup just for fun or for ur job?

I work in the Oil industry. The Mac's are not used for work.
I use a little of CS4 after recently buying a nice camera, nothing intense though.

I've recently completed digitizing some old cassette tapes of songs and bits I'd recorded over several years.
I'm about to find out what Garageband can really do after having so far used it to play around with tracks.

Figured I might as well start converting some old commercial tapes as well. Of course some of them are now pretty much useless but the good ones I'll keep, using filters in software and the Sony cassette deck hardwired switches.

included are some past setups.

I would never use a TV as my only external monitor, but if this is what you want...

IMO I agree, I tried it at my 42'' Samsung TV and I think it not so comfortable to read and use for a long time and work like a external display (monitor) ..although playin games on (such a big) TV really awesome! :))

It's a 32", i were to buy the 30" apple display, but i also need to connect my ps3 and satellite receiver.

Pretty darn comfortable for me, specially with low backlight level and no sharpness settings!

Wouldnt it worked if you buy Apple LED display and apple TV? Only speculating, never saw Apple TV and dunno if it is possible to connect sat. reciever to that..

This is my college setup, I love it. Clamshell mode is awesome!:)

I though that the LED is only available in 24", i don't need an Apple TV nor do i like the concept of the product.

I did the swap a year or two ago, and I'm very glad I did. It's so much easier to maintain one machine. You have everything with you all the time no worrying about syncing or missing stuff.

I like this setup - even more than iMac 24'', I think its more comfortable, no problems with syncing 2 machines etc. .. nice

Thanks! I got the 20" monitor for only $99 on sale. Its great because unlike many of you here, the color gamut, refresh rate, etc etc don't matter to me, I'm only gonna be coding and surfing on this thing.

I don't do graphic intensive work, so I feel like i got a steal!:)
