Yeah I ended up getting one too.. The 160GB X25-M.
Blazing fast.
You owe me $300 :p

Good dude! I'm glad you got one, but I am gonna hide from you so I don't have to pay you. I was such a nerd yesterday that I youtubed my booting from my new x25. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRqk--eunG8 Yep there's the link for those interested. The movie is sort of lame, I made it in 5 mins in iMovie and yah. But booting to your desktop in under 15 seconds from the Apple is nice huh?

Oh hey, some things I did to increase performance were to disable the sudden motion sensor on my macbook, switch to sleep mode that doesn't write the 4gig ram image to disk up lid being closed, and I flashed the firmware. After even just flashing the firmware I got a 10-15% increase in speed on the drive. The other things were little incremental benefits, like more disk space from the ram sleep image being gone. That also speeds sleep and wake. (Less wear and tear on the ssd too for not writing the large image at sleep and wake).

I love my drive. Today I got a 250gb Hitachi 7200rpm drive for the hackintosh that I want to build.

It's alright. If it sits on one image too long it gets temporary burn in.

I remember burn in on my tv when I was 5. 1985 and I left it on while I was at school, came home and my NES was on still and level 8-4 was still paused! ahahha
Cheap TV too. Big huge wooden console TV, remember those?

Yah so mario was a permanent addition to the bottom left.

Lulz, do you change your setup every day? See you posting your setup in every possible tread over and over again..

Here's my setup.I'm trying to get a 3.33Ghz C2D 21.5" or 27" iMac for college this fall with grants.

Btw. You should download Teleport for Mac, so you can control both desks with just one mouse and keyboard. And without two keyboards you could name it a new setup and post that one too

Also, Synergy works for that too. :) I'm going to try and clean up my desk and take a pick of my setup tonight. I just got it finished last night.

Ok, here we go. I have two pictures... The way I would like to keep my desk. Clean and organized. And the way that shows off my toys. :)

The things you'll see, 21.5" iMac with ATI card, 22" Acer monitor hooked up to desktop running Ubuntu 10.04 beta and dual booting Windows 7. I have a mouse and keyboard for both but I also use Synergy to use one keyboard and mouse between.

Just a simple desk from Ikea that was cheap and big enough for my computers.

White box on top of the desktop is a MyBook World Edition that I have linux on so it runs my web/ftp/ssh server. I have a scrolling LED sign that I'm going to see if I can control through it as well so my desktops don't need to be on.

First generation 15" MacBook Pro. :) EeePC 900 running Jolicloud (kinda hard to see in the middle) and Lenovo Thinkpad T400 that I use for work... running XP.

All but the Thinkpad keep synced using Dropbox and they all have SSH/SFTP support so I can access any one of them at any time. My home router updates a DynDNS account so I can remotely access anything from anywhere as well.

Not pictured is my PS3/Xbox360/Wii, because they aren't part of the Mac setup, but my iMac streams all my movies and music to them using the free application Majestic.

Thanks for the suggestions! Just performed those terminal commands and firmware is already up to date. :D

There are some amazing setups in here. I'm pretty happy with my semi-cluttered desk and simple set-up though.

23" Acer HD Monitor
Mac Mini 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/4GB RAM upgraded from 2
Magic Mouse
Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard
Aluminum Apple Remote
Bose Companion 3 Series II speakers

2x1TB WD MyBook Externals
1x320GB WD Passport for Time Machine
Verizon FiOS Router

160GB Black iPod Classic w/official Apple Dock

Macbook Unibody (trying to find someone to trade my MB and a couple hundred for an MBP)

Not pictured: Blackberry Bold 9700 (which was used to take the crappy pictures). I let somebody use my good camera and they spilled Pepsi on it

I'm trying to find an unlocked iPhone 3GS, but it appears as though everyone has them for sale, but nobody actually WANTS to sell them.

All on an Ikea Mikael black/brown desk.

The chair actually costs the same as about half of my setup. I got it for free, though. I've had it for about 10 years. I'm thinking about purchasing a new one, but i'm not sure I can find anything to replace it.

Random stuff in background: Toca Djembe, Saranac Summer Brew, awesome "Fingers Crossed" and "Peace" hands, bowl with about $75 in change, rad globe (I have a thing for maps and globes).. everything else is pretty uninteresting.

Ditch that POS Actiontec FiOS router and pick up an Airport Extreme. Best thing I ever did for my FiOS. :)

Yeah? Does it really make that much of a difference?

I get a great signal throughout my house and well into my back yard.

And my download and upload speeds are pretty fast (but i'm comparing that to having Verizon DSL for years).

The original one was an absolute nightmare (and got worse with their post-GPL violation fix). I was visiting my parents about every two days messing with it.

Thankfully, it kicked the bucket, and Verizon sent them the version you have now which is fine. I see no reason to dump it, especially since it is such a pain to run the FiOS signal directly to another router.

If you do not have a problem, don't worry about it. If you get to the foil hat point and are concerned that Verizon has a back door in it (which they do), then maybe look elsewhere.
