The obvious question, then: What're the other three for?;)

Well, the Mac Mini is for when I have long downloads going or need to do big file transfers across the network. I usually leave the other 15" MacBook Pro downstairs so that I don't have to drag my main MacBook Pro downstairs every time I want to use a computer whilst watching TV. The black MacBook is for when I want something a bit lighter than the 15" MacBook Pro when traveling. And finally, the 12" PowerBook G4 is for nostalgia :)

Do they all work? And could you specify the model of each? Nice assortment by the way.

Yup, each of them works perfectly! Going from bottom to top:

2.33GHz 15" MacBook Pro Rev B with 3GB RAM and a 500GB HDD

2.4GHz 15" MacBook Pro Rev D with 6GB RAM and a 100GB OWC SSD with the Superdrive replaced with a 500GB HDD

2.0GHz 13" Black MacBook with 4GB RAM (hardware limited to 3GB) and a 120GB HDD

1.33GHz 12" PowerBook G4 with 1.25GB RAM and a 320GB HDD

1.42GHz Mac Mini G4 with 1GB RAM and an 80GB HDD

Do you use sharing between the laptops for file access all around?

A mix of that as well as my iDisk, the iDisk for files that I want to share with all the computers and sharing for files that I need on just two computers. The iDisk is so slow though, so I don't tend to use it for huge files.

Have you had them all since new, or picked up a used one here and there?

this is ********* beautiful!
too bad you don't seem fond of the wireless keyboard.
two questions, if you don't mind.

which dell monitor is this?
and what's the stand holding up the whitebook?

Looks like a Dell UltraSharp 2209WA to me. It's really a shame that Dell doesn't build more silver displays. They look so good paired with Apple Products.

The stand could be a Grffin Elevator.

2010 iMac meets his ancestors

So I did a fairly unusual purchase yesterday.

First off, little history:

December 22th 2010:

I came across a 2002 iMac 15" G4 700Mhz 1GB RAM 160GB HD. It included the original box, original cd's, original mouse and pro speakers. The owner purchased this iMac new in 2002 and kept it in pristine condition. It's absolutely brand spanking new looking. No scratches anywhere and the housing of the iMac + keyboard are still as white as they can be. Price? €75,00.
Now, have in mind I live in Holland and you must think of those Euro's as dollars. (given the fact a iMac which costs 1600 dollars costs 1600 euro's here). Owner verified the iMac is very very gently used. It has been in a dust free basement for the last 3 years.

A darn good deal. Absolutely amazing. Those iMacs go for 250+ easily here.
A real bargain.

So it just sits next to my iMac 27". Looking awesome.

Now, some pics before setting it up and after.

Pictures are all taken with the iPhone 4.

I managed to pick up an iMac just like this, but for £40! (probably roughly around €55,00 in your area) It is also in pristine condition, the only thing it did not include is the original box. They are beautiful machines! :D

I got the desk from an ikea's outlet, it had some minor scuffs but nothing I couldn't fix myself, not to forget the $200 I saved. I believe it's the galant series.

It's a dell 2209WA Arctic silver. There was a short period when dell was selling them for $200 when I got it. It's a shame they don't sell them anymore because it's real cheap for an IPS monitor.

yes, the stand is a Griffin Elevator.

I didn't change the setup for over one year now and I'm still very happy with it!

I got one for free earlier in the year. The computer itself was in great condition, but the keyboard was rather yellowed. Still sold for $220 (or around £150). The G4 iMacs are probably my favorite Mac ever, but I couldn't really justify having it sit around just for looks when I had an iPad to buy
