What does that cord going into the mystery hole lead to?

LOL, I put it there to keep it off the floor, its my iPhone charging cable. =P

----------

Not qualified

The rules say you must have your MacBook in the opened position if your PC is present. :p

I'll take one tomorrow, just for you!

----------

Looks like the Skullcandy cord. Maybe it's just in there for ease of access. Just my guess.

Close, but like I said it's my iphone USB. The end was on the floor so I put it in the "mystery hole" on the way out the door so it didn't get stepped on by my roomie.

Thank you for all the information! That is the one thing that has bothered me with the Silver model, looks great until you look at it from the side and you see that white plastic grill. I am going to check it out in store, not sure what stores in the US sell them though.

I am thinking going the i5/i7 route with an aftermarket cooler, and for the graphics card a gigabyte 6850. Do you think the stock fans will cool those well? I really want to keep the system quiet and cooled well. I will probably upgrade the fans by christmas.

I might have to have 3HDDs (one for OS X, one for Windows, one for media and backups) so thats good that it cools well.

I'd stick with an i5 2500K, the i7 2600K is a waste of cash. The stock fans will do a good job of keeping it cool, especially if you buy a decent CPU after-market CPU cooler (but as a Bit-Tech reader you should know all about that!).

No SSD?!

I would agree with your point on the i5. I debated about which one to get when I was building my rig, so I let price decide instead, and I am so happy I saved the cash. I haven't run into a game I can't play with ease on max gfx, and the temps stay low with the stock heatsink even, but I do plan on getting a new one.

Main reason I was thinking of purchasing the i7 is just to future proof. I haven't upgraded my computer since 2004 and I just want my new computer to last a long a time. I may not use all of the i7, but at least it is there for when I do use it.

If the i7 is really a waste though, I might just get an i3 and get some Ivy Bridge goodness at the beginning of the year ;) But that will probably get me in the bad habit of buying and then upgrading very soon which is not too good on my wallet!

For the SSD, I really do want one to install OS X on and I might get a smaller one for Windows, I am just waiting for prices to drop by Christmas or get some nice Black Friday deals going on. I am just going stick it out for a few months and see if any $1/1Gb deals come along. Thank you for all the help!

Thank you for the input then! I am heavenly leaning toward the i5, although I may just wait until Ivy Bridge and have an i3 hold me over.

i3 is by no means a BAD cpu, especially if you're not a big gamer. But I have always been against the waiting game in the sense that we never truly know what is coming, and we should just enjoy what we can now. Don't even know if we'll be here tomorrow.

Besides, you could always resell an i5 for more than an i3 to go towards an ivy bridge cpu. :D

An i7 2600K isn't really going to 'future proof' a computer any more than the i5 2500K - the difference is literally 100Mhz at stock speeds and Hyperthreading. A 2500K is going to be easily enough - even down the line. If you overclock, which is criminally easy, then the speed difference becomes nothing.

I wouldn't get an i3 however - they're dual core, in an era where quads are ruling the roost. Ivy Bridge would be a drop-in upgrade, but equally, you'll be able to sell a 2500K for more than an i3-2100, and demand for the 2500K will be higher than the 2100 as well.

That said, a 2500K will last years before it becomes a bottleneck. I'd buy one now, ignore Ivy Bridge and plough future funds in to the money pit that is ever-improving GPUs.

I know the i3 isn't a bad processor, much better than my Core 2 Duo. I think will just stick with an i5 then!

Alright, I will go with the i5. Thank you for the feedback!

So, I've moved and just finished setting up my desk. Sorry for the horrible iPhone 4 picture quality but I guess it'll do.

I still need to fix my cable management. And I will make some pictures later on with better quality. These colors are completely distorted. But you'll get the point.

Great - I really love the VESA wall mounting, I'm toying with doing the same with a 27" TB display when I can lay my hands on one.

Decided to move my office to a different room. Here is my progress. Ignore all of the crap in the cubby holes, that has yet to be organized.

Im pretty sure thats one of the desks Im curently looking at getting, its from Ikea right? (what isn't on here :p ) The name escapes me right now. How have you found it?

@iDutchman
Beautiful set up, so much clean room to work. I'm thinking of doing something along those lines when I get my 27". Mind sharing where you got the desk from?
