So why did you chose 17" MBP over an IMac?

The 13" has basic/stock entry-level specs, and I take that on the go with me on most occasions, however occasionally I like/need to have the extra power/screen real estate that the 17" provides (this has the faster CPU and upgraded RAM etc).

Once the 17" is plugged in to the ACD at home I see no advantage of an iMac instead. Like I said, its a "desktop replacement".

I also didn't have the 13" at the time or purchase, so the 17" MBP was the best option for being able to have the power and also take it on the go with me if I really need it.

Interesting. I see so many designers using MBA's with thunderbolt and I was debating on selling my 17" since I got my thunderbolt display for an air. I don't mind the size necessarily but something smaller and lighter would be a plus and I think i'd be more likely to take it a lot more places. I need the power though. I'll just wait to see what the next revision looks like before I make a decision.

I think it may just be the fact that I've gone from the powerhouse quad-core i7 in my iMac to the MBA, everything feels slower.

Having said that, I can run the MBA fairly well by itself without the screen plugged in with Lightroom/PS etc. Just lacks that graphics card...
